Pros: Best Psychological Thriller in Years
Cons: None
Highly reccommend for those looking for more than just blood and guts. Deep dark personalities lie beneath all the characters but which is capable of such atrosity isn't known until the climactic ending. A must see.
It was a great movie, I suggest it to anyone that like psychodic thrillers.
beyond creepy, probably one of my favorite scary movies of all time, if you want to die from fright watch this
One of the best horror films ever. Pure psychological terror. A MUST see.
This is a true masterpiece of psychological horror. Anyone expecting cliched and predictable popcorn scares should go rent Thirteen Ghosts. The location alone makes the film. The asylum where Session 9 is shot is absolutely the creepiest place on earth, and the cinematography caputures it perfectly. All the texture and colour and shadow translate so well throught the films grainy, documentary style filming, that you really feel like you're there (sometimes that feeling can be overwhelming as the camera slowly moves through it's darkened corridors). The direction and writing and acting and cinematography are solid and flawless all the way through, and the pacing is incredible. This is a film about subtlety in every way, and in that sense what's scary about this film is what they don't show. The suspense mounts so gradually and so masterfully that you don't fully realize how much it's getting to you until it stops. The filmmakers are aware of this and they fully take advantage of it, incorporating what seems like two climaxes just to ensure that they've fully gotten under our skin. The acting is flawless as well, especially from david carusso and whoever that scottish guy is. They bring a necessary feeling of realism to a script which could have felt too unrealistic or implausible. It's absolutely gut wrenching in it's unrelenting pacing, and has a really satisfying (and not overly-predictable ending). Horror fans who are more interested in gore and flashy effects may be dissappointed in it's reserved and subtle style, but fans of, say, the shinning, will appreciate that subtlety. Truly one of the all time great horror films (for those with strong hearts and good attention spans). Definitely worth seeing more than once.
If you've ever seen mtv's fear it gives the same type of impression. A really creepy setting in an old mental hospital. Gives the same type of sense that blair witch did, you never really truly see the bad guy.
