Pro Reviews: Seek
| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews Only the third Beanfield fulllength to appear during the decade after the group's debut, Seek finds only Jan Krause remaining from the former trio (although he's obviously kept in close contact with Michael Reinboth, head of the Compost label that made this release possible). While comparisons with the fouryearsgone Human Patterns may be dangerous, Krause (along with his new partner, Michael Mettke) have fused the lush organics of previous Beanfield material with much more RB songcraft and dance than previously; the opener "Chosen" is a piece of precise, balletic soul with the offkilter beats to mark it as a Compost product and a sublime production driven by strings and accordion. Another vocal track, "Someone Like You," illustrates Krause's skill with a chugging house track. Still, the instrumentals (and a few vocals) weigh this record down. It's during the laborious acid jazz workout "Mr. Park" that Beanfield sounds most like a distant second to Compost veterans Jazzanova in the nusoul marathon. - John Bush, All Music Guide |

As being a duo, the member-change since they had their last album released has considerably changed the musical face of Benfield. This change also may be the reason why they've given the title 'Seek' to their current release. Jan Krause and, from now on, Michael Mettke have hardly turned their attention to slighty atmospheric slow-sweep tracks but they have jumped into the ocean of using versatile musical aproaches while they hadn't forgotten to keep their Seek on a very conscious wave. Wroughtness, thick strings, whobbling basses and clever ideas keep the sound of the live instruments in unity until the very last song. Therefore this album is more about going into home-listening musical deepness which doesnt necessarily mean the lack of a few ass banging yet intelligent songs just like the pearl 'Season' for example that holds the first real female vocal session of the album while is being placed somewhere around the middle of the playtime. This waiting sets this already energy vibrating album into such a bombasticly happy one that you cannot stop falling in love with it. ...
