Sky Saxton planted punk in the 60's with The Seeds

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 23, 2004

Pros: Revolutionized the music world with acid-punk, inspired many rock/punk bands of the late 60's to the present.

Cons: I recently jammed with my band 'The Gardners' at a party in Upland, CA, with HR, aka Joseph I, from 'Bad Brains' (thanks Turtle) and saw Sky Saxton there. The only con I can think of, is that Sky Saxton is still sporting the pink leather pants. Sky, you still f-ing rock.

Sky Saxton, the man who made punk-rock. The man who changed music. The man who still sports the pink leather pants, planted 'The Seeds' into the music world, and gave inspiration to all musicians, world-wide. ... Thank you, Mr Saxton. Ed O./The Gardners Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Seeds

  • All Music Guide

As mid'60s L.A. garage bands go, the Seeds were perhaps the most primitive, which isn't necessarily a virtue. Whereas the Standells had good lyrics, the Leaves could write pop, and Love was gifted beyond comparison, Sky Saxon and company had to settle for attitude and an unintended comicalness. Their debut record is just that. It's comprised of snotty boygirl songs and teeters on the edge of musical ineptness, though it does contain the garage classic "Pushin' Too Hard" (whose arrangement is recycled at least once here). The other significant tune is "Can't Seem to Make You Mine," which features a repetitive, hauntedhouse guitar riff. The rest of the record, though fairly forgettable, still reinforces the truth that pure punk appeared long before the Sex Pistols.
