    Unbelievable

    By James  Sep 10, 2000

Wow! What ever happened to this band? So much talent! Anacrusis is what you get when you mix Dream Theater with Pantera. Absolutely the most incredible metal album I've ever heard. No contest! If you're lucky enough to find one of these albums, get ...it! Read more Less

    Best Album EVER!!!

    By Gregory  Feb 6, 2000

You can't go wrong with this disc. It is by far the best metal ever recorded by any band at any time. The simple truth and emotion of 'Release' is the crowning achievement of this band. Oh, and don't read the liner notes here; Chad Smith had left An...acrusis after "Manic Impressions". All drum tracks were provided by Paul Miles. Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Screams and Whispers

  • All Music Guide

Screams and Whispers builds on the foundation laid by Manic Impressions by accentuating Anacrusis' melodic side and stepping up the production with keyboards and effects, helping make the record a touch more accessible than the despairing Impressions. But at the same time, the band reaches even greater musical heights, pushing their technical abilities to the limit with a heavier concentration on odd, shifting time signatures; plus, the emphasis on melodicism hasn't produced traditionally catchy songs, but rather tunes that sound focused, logical, and yet somehow unpredictably alien. Kenn Nardi's vocals are as schizophrenic as ever, and even without the new embellishments, the arrangements are even more sophisticated, making effective use of space, interplay, and dynamic and textural shifts. Some may prefer the raw exposed nerves of Manic Impressions, but Screams and Whispers is a definite step forward, and arguably Anacrusis' best album; the only disappointment is the fact that it's a...lso the group's final statement. - Steve Huey, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Anacrusis

Anacrusis was one of the more talented bands which somehow got lost in the shuffle of the late-'80s thrash phenomenon. Plagued with poor distribution and isolated from the thriving speed metal communities on either coast, they were often said to be ahead of their time by enthusiastic critics, but it seems that their eclectic style simply shot over most listeners' heads.... Read more
