Scratch the Surface (1997)

Models and supermodels have long been ridiculed as being unintelligent and shallow. Intent on changing this ZOOLANDER image, supermodel Tara Fitzgerald directed this black and white documentary about life on the catwalk. Fitzgerald captures behind the scenes footage of fashion shows and features interviews with such former stars of the runway as Phoebe Cates and Brooke Shields, who have gone on to even more challenging careers in acting. The interviews discuss the cruelty of the business and the perseverance needed to continue on in this profession with a candidness that has the potential to disprove stereotypes and occasionally shock.
