Scrabylon (2005)

A documentary about the world of competitive Scrabble, SCRABYLON presents a picture of a subculture with a surprisingly aggressive and cutthroat nature that contrasts sharply with the contemplative and slow-paced character of the popular board game. Shot during the World Scrabble Championship in Las Vegas, the film profiles many of the game's best players, who come from around the globe and from diverse backgrounds, united by their love of the game and often eccentric behavior. Using interviews with players and the administrators of the competition, as well as footage of the matches themselves, SCRABYLON presents a picture of the literary boardgame unlike any other seen.
