SanDisk Sansa e260 smokes the iPod!

By Brian  Feb 28, 2007 | 35 out of 36 found this SanDisk Sansa e260 review helpful

Pros: Expandable Memory, Plays Videos, Built in FM Tuner, Long Battery Life

Cons: I can't think of any at the moment

I'm an engineer and like to think of myself as a very technically savvy shopper. So, when I started looking for an MP3 player I looked at all the specifications. I didn’t know if I wanted a hard drive or flash drive, one with a built in tu...ner, expandable memory, etc… So, I did a lot of research and one of the things that I found was that a flash drive was probably the way to go since, they are not as susceptible to skipping when exercising or driving down the road in your car. Also, a couple of other things that were important to me were the ability to listen to the radio while I’m working and to add memory at a later date when I fill up the internal memory. Anyway, with all this said, I looked at the most recognized MP3 players on the market like; the Apple iPod, Microsoft Zune, Samsung K5 and countless others. Not to knock any of the competition but the SanDisk Sansa e260 had a lot to offer for the price. It has a flash drive, built in FM tuner, an expandable memory slot and can play videos. Also, the menu is very initiative and easy to operate with a crystal clear color display. Before you shell out a lot of bucks for an MP3 player do your homework. Don’t take my word for it, check it out for yourself. Good luck. Read more Less

Pros: Features, styling, capacity, sound quality

Cons: Front scratches very easily, proprietary USB cable

Having recently given up on and returning a Lyra RD2762 (trash), I bought this and I am truly impressed. My first thought was to go with an IPod Nano, but after a little research I knew this was the way to go. I love it when I'm right. 4gb's... of storage, photo viewing, video playback, FM tuner with on the fly recording, voice recording, and a replaceable battery. Let's see the Nano do that. Transferring music is seamless with Music Match, Windows Media Player and Winamp. Photos and video requires the converter program, but that works very well and is quite fast. A lot of people find the navigation wheel to be worse than the Nano, but I actually prefer this. The "ratchet" feel works for me, and the illumination make it easy to use in the car at night. The one big knock I have is that the front scratches way too easily, so buy a case at the same time you buy the player and life will be good. If Sandisk had used the LiquidMetal material they used on the back for the front, this thing would be perfect. Read more Less

    SanDisk Sansa e260

The e260 offers many features, but they aren't always easy to use, and audio quality lags behind other players. The SanDisk Sansa e260 looks a lot like an Apple iPod Nano--from the front. It's roughly as tall and wide as the Nano, it has a big color screen, and its thumbwheel is surrounded by four navigation buttons. Priced at $229 (as of 4/13/06), the 4GB e260 costs $20 less than a 4GB iPod Nano. Read more
