    Pros: Beautiful, powerful piano with a Northwest flair

    I have owed this CD since its release in 1987 when I heard it being played in a shop on Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands of Washington state. If you are lucky enough to find a copy of this CD - GRAB IT! I still listen to mine frequently, and now ...that I have an iPod, it is one of my most played albums. I love many types of music, including rock, but this is my favorite music. Summer Rain (track 3) is my all-time favorite musical piece. It is the BEST music to play while sailing, especially in Puget Sound. Read more Less

    Pros: The best piano music that I have ever heard.

    Cons: none

    This is the best piano music that I have ever heard!! My hard rocker friends, and even my own children, want to hear it over and over again. There is little distracting elements of other instruments from the pure and flowing music.

    Michael Gettel has an instantly appealing piano style reminiscent of George Winston. On his first album, Gettel's only accompaniment are the sounds of the ocean, whales and other marine mammals, along with natural ambient sounds. Otherwise, San Juan Suite is solo piano only, with each piece a personal portrait. This music really flows, like the waters of Puget Sound around the San Juan Islands which inspired this album.
