Samsung's history of innovation in European mobile communications has been witnessed with the introduction of TFT color screens, soft-touch slide-up phones, built-in megapixel digital cameras, intenna (built-in antenna) technology and the revelation of 3G in a series of highly successful mobile phones. Samsung combines these technologies to introduce the SGH-D500, a multipurpose Megapixel slider on the cutting edge of business communications.

Samsung unveils the D500, a new addition to its European mobile phone line-up, which supports everything from business to entertainment, from the technology oriented young generation to fashionable people who are looking for more stylish and ease-of-use design.

The D500 integrates the pinnacle of Samsung's industry leading innovations with a host of quality features, including a soft-touch slide-up design; an intenna; 80MB storage capacity; a 1.3-megapixel camera with flash; video recording and messaging; Bluetooth, email, and syncML connectivity; 64 polyphonic ring tones; an enhanced voice clarity and speakerphone; a bright 1.9-inch, 262, 144-pixel TFT-LCD screen and an MP3 music player.

The 1.3-megapixel camera not only allows users to take pictures, but also gives them creative freedom with the availability of 10 embedded special effects and emoticons. The significantly bright flash and digital linear zoom smoothly catches the best moments to remember.

The 80MB of storage supports and expands the business capabilities of the user. The dynamic shared memory allows people to store over 1, 000 megapixel images, capture 60 minutes of video, save 15 to 20 MP3 or AAC songs, enter up to 60 minutes of voice recording or just use the space for receiving and sending attached files.

With a variety of sync options, the D500 supports Email Client, vCard and vCalendar for quick information transfer. It has advanced MMS, Java and WAP 2.0 capabilities as well as USB and SyncML DS. In addition, the D500's Bluetooth technology provides users with the power of a Personal Area Network to immediately improve communication channels, increase productivity, make data sharing and synchronization easier, supply instant access to key information and create the freedom to work when and wherever business needs arise. In particular, Bluetooth solutions in wireless headsets and hands-free car kits allow users to talk easily and comfortably anytime, anywhere.

The D500 also supports video recording as well as plays back video and MP3 files just like a PC with a full range of entertainment options. Fitted with a 60-minute recording capacity, users will be able to capture more of nature's brilliance or life's experiences and share the visions and memories in living color. Recording flexibility is offered with a 7x digital zoom for pictures and 4x digital zoom for video.

One of the best phone i've had...

By Bert  Apr 11, 2005 | 48 out of 56 found this Samsung SGH-D500 review helpful

Pros: feature packed, ozzing with quality, quick operating software

Cons: soft ringtone too soft with integrated speaker, pricey, awkward directional keypad

Generally loved this phone. Feature voice clarity which I'd really appreciate. The ringtone is a bit soft though, rendering quite a few missed calls. But this can be solved by the built in vibrating feature. The software system is relatively quic...k as you flip through the various functions, files and contact list in the phone and reacts to your commands pretty swiftly without significant lag. Usuage is a breeze, although inserting a name unto a typed SMS message from the contact list could be simpler like on a Nokia. Generally, a phone that still doesn't fail to impress me after 1 month of usage. P.S and did i mention: just luv its cool form factor!! Read more Less

Pros: MP3, Video, Picture, Speaker Phone, Bluetooth, Quality, Size & Style

    Cons: Alarm function

Samsung D500 Overview The new D500 from Samsung features stunning visual design, excellent multimedia and storage capabilities combined with many enhancements. And of course, for the first time, Samsung have included Bluetooth technology into the ph...one. The phone design, on an aesthetic level is very handsome. Small and compact with a slide-up opening system. The phone's keyboard is located on the inside slider which is simply (and smoothly) released by gently pushing a button located on the side of the phone. Not only does the D500 boast great looks, but it's also crammed with excellent features. 1.3 Megapixel Camera Samsung have embedded a SXGA 1.3 Megapixel digital camera into the rear of the D500 mobile phone. Add photo effects and view your photos on the bright, crisp-clear TFT display with over 262 thousand colours. (1.9 inches) Close-ups or cityscapes, your photos will be vibrant and detailed. Store and play back your perfect pictures from the 92MB internal user memory, add to it multi-shot or any other enhancement features like photo effects and then send pictures wirelessly through Bluetooth or Infrared . MPEG4 Video With the D500, you also get an integrated digital camcorder combined into the phone. It will let you shoot movies in MPEG4/H.263 format. Once you're done you can play it back on your phone, similarly to a PC, and then even send it to a friend in a MMS. You can zoom in with a 4x digital zoom while recording up to 60 minutes of video with sound. Speaker Phone with Voice Clarity Sometimes speaking on the phone in a crowded or noisy place can be frustrating and difficult. The Samsung D500 addresses this issue with it's state of the art echo and noice cancellation technology feature. The speaker phone will also suppress excess ambient noise from around you, allowing for a clearer call. Sound Mate The D500 can also be connected to it's unique Sound Mate accessory which equips the phone with speaker phone advantages, making in-car conversations and conference calling easy. The soundmate is included along with the phone package. (UK) Read more Less
