I think that this album is Black Sabbath's final masterpiece cause this album unfortunately marked the beginning of the original Black Sabbath lineup and it's way better than most of their follow ups with the exception of Born Again.
Hole in the Sky is a fast paced rocker with growling vocals and memorable guitar riffs, Don't Start Too Late is a creepy instrumental which is the intro to the classic Symptom of the Universe which has a wide range of riffs, Megalomania is one of Black Sabbath's most underrated songs and I love the 'Feel it Slipping Away' part of the song and this song is over 9 and a half minutes long, Thrill of it All is a great rocker and it should've been another Black Sabbath standard, Supertzar is a evil track with the choir singing backup vocals, next is the psychedelic rocker of Am I Going Insane (Radio) which is the weakest song off of this album and one of the weakest songs during the pre Techincal Ecstasy era, next is the multi-part epic of The Writ which is about a the band's management and the anger really shows off of this song, if you love Black Sabbath or classic metal music, then pick up Sabotage at your local music score and listen to it, too bad Black Sabbath would never sound the same after this album.
Sabotage is a good album for a classic rock/metal fan but it falls short of the earlier albums with Ozzy, the classic songs are Hole in the Sky, Syptom of the Universe, Megalomania, and The Writ. The song that I'd like the least is Am I Going Insane.
If you're a big fan of Black Sabbath or Ozzy, then you'll like this album, it's better than their next two releases.
A heavy metal masterpiece from start to finish.
Songs like Hole in the sky or Thrill of it all kick ass and Symptom of universe is beyond belief. Listen to the power of Ozzy's voice on this album.
Most of the tracks on this CD are explosive, but some others are a waste of time to listen to. Overall, this album rates in the middle of all Ozzy-led Sabbath albums. Great CD to listen to in a wild party!
This was Sabbath's last truly great album, and most likely my favorite out of all of them. This is Sabbath at their prime(with Ozzy), making great catchy melodies accompanied with Ozzy's best vocals(IMO). If you don't have this album, you are truly missing out on a great music experience. My favorite tracks are Symptom Of The Universe, Meglomania, & The Writ.
This is the best Sabbath album. It's really diverse and original, and it doesn't sound "square" as the previous records. The 8 songs on that are almost their 8 best.
Though it's impossible to call this Sabbaths 'greatest' album in an overall sense, I would go as far to say this is my favorite Sabbath album and i've heard everything sabbath has put out in my 23 years on this earth. This was as varied, complete and consistent as any Sab record. it has the multi-section "sympton of the universe", which is lead by an incredibly vicious Iommi riff. "Megalomania" is another underrated standout, "hole in the sky" is heavy and plodding, "superztar" is a orchestration of vocals and guitar which works very well. I can live without "am i going insane", though it has grown on me over the years. Overall this album remains as probably Sabbaths best in my eyes, certainly their most overrated in the 'real' rock critics eyes. Go buy it if you liked the previous release 'sabbath bloody sabbath', it's the logical conclusion to that release and it's more than vital.
i'm sure he'll whine like a little baby if he reads this heh, so good
This is in my opinion the loudest of the first 8 Black Sabbath albums. Oh yeah, it's also one of the best heavy metal albums ever released. 'Symptom of the Universe' is a song that shows just what the Sab boys are about; LOUD. 'The Writ' is another great song. If you're looking for a loud album, get "Sabotage". You won't be sorry.
'symptom of the universe', 'thrill of it all' ,
'hole in the sky'... this album is great. the last of the best group of sabbath albums.
This is, in my opinion, the best of the Ozzy-era Sabbath albums. Unlike its predecessor (Sabbath Bloody Sabbath), it uses effects and melodies in a style fitting perfectly with the music. What you get here is a very varied album, and an experimental one at that. Do get this one, one of the most underrated Sabbath albums ever. My only complaint is the lame cover art.
THE TITLE REALLY REFLECTS WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH SAB-BOYS AT THE TIME, SABOTAGE (ESPECIALLY BY THEIR MANAGERS).HOLE IN THE SKY HAS A GREAT JAZZY-METAL RIFF AND THEY JUST DECIDED TO CRANK THE VOLUME ON IT (ALSO A VERY COLD ENDING). DON'T START (TOO LATE) SOUNDS LIKE A BUTTERFLY FLYING INTROING INTO ONE OF THE BEST METAL RIFFS BY THE IOMMIMEISTER-SYMPTOM OF THE UNIVERSE, IT ALSO HAS SOME OF THE QUICKEST DRUM ROLLS BILL WARD HAS EVER DONE AS OZZY SCREAMS, "YYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEAAAAAAAA
HHHHH". THE ACOUSTIC-JAZZ EXIT ON SYMPTOM SHOW HOW VERSATEL THIS BAND REALLY IS! THE THRILL OF IT ALL HAS SOME GREAT TONY GUITAR PICK FEEDBACK AND SYNTH. SUPERTZAR IS A SCARY OMEN-LIKE DIRGE AND AM I GOING INSANE HAS OZZY TOTALLY FREAKING OUT AS HE EXITS INTO THE WRIT WHICH STARTS OFF WITH A SUPERIOR WAH-WAH BUTLERAMA BASS AND WARD'S REVERSED HIGH-HAT. THAT SONG CONTAINS THE CLASSIC IOMMI POWER CHORDS W/OSBOURNE'S VENGEFUL SINGING "BUT EVERYTING IS GONNA BE ALRIGHT EVENTHOUGH SOMETIMES I FEEL LIKE LOSING MY MIND". MEGALOMANIA HAS MORE TONY LAYERS THAN A QUADRUPLE CHOCOLATE CAKE, IOMMI AT HIS GRANDEST WITH A TORTURED OZZY.
i love the song symptom of the universe; hell the whole album is pretty sweet
Megalomania is decent you must be real psycho .About Symptom of the Universe - this songs is one of the best Sabbath songs and you cant give it just"standout cut"
I did not wnat to re-rate an album but I changed my mind. Why? I've got to say it: I am 27 now and I have been listening to rock music since I was 14; I have never found (it's my own opinion) an album of this quality. I humbly think that this is the best rock and roll album ever made. I am very sorry. I know many people will disagree since not everybody even knows this exists but for those who really know and are open to opinions from people who really love this kind of music: if not the best, easily in the top five rock and roll albums in history.
p.s : Black Sabbath have never been one of my favorite bands.(funnily enough?).
this has got to be one of the best sabbath records ever made.
if you have this album on record at the end of the last song on side 2 turn up the volume. there is a song called blow on a jug that lasts about 30 seconds, all it is, is just ozzy
Even by Sabbath's high standards, this one stands out. "Symptom of the Universe" capsulizes the band's wide range of sounds, starting off with quick metal and ending on mellow acoustics. "Supertzar" is amazing; it's really like nothing I've ever heard from any band. Pretty much every other song on the album is great also, with "Am I Going Insane?" and "Meglomania" standing out the most.
This was the last CD to contain the real Sabbath sound. Everything after this was commercial crap. "Symptom of the Universe" and "Megalomania" are the only tracks I play off this one and I find the rest to be filler. This band started the "Heavy Metal" genre and is the best, but I would check into earlier CD's from them.
It's purely outstanding! the true end of sabbath..to be quite honest Paranoid doesn't come close to this masterpiece. You heard that from a real sabbath fan!
Symptom is the standout cut. Megolomaia is decent, if a bit overdone. Overall, a fairly even recording.
Great album. My only complaint is that Ozzy says "Oh yea" or "yea" too many times on this album.
Released in 1975, Sabotage brought the band to the peak of it's power and popularity. This is a true heavy metal album with more speed and less doom and gloom than the previous 5. Sabotage is solid from start to finish, every song is good or excellent. Oddly, this album is overlooked, apparently overshadowed by releases like Paranoid and Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath. But Sabotage is just as good or better, with a more modern sound.(a taste of 80's heavy metal to come) A Sabbath album collection is not complete without Sabotage, this is one of their best.
Great album all around. In my opinion, the last great Sabbath album with the Ozz. From the opener "Hole in the Sky", through the epic "Megalomania", to the instrumental/chant "Supertzar", the album is filled with such Sabb classic heavy metal with classical guitar as in "Don't Start/Too Late". "Symptom of the Universe" is one of their best songs: mixes grinding guitar opening with soft melodic sounds to finish off.
This is one of the best black sabbayh's album. Symptom of the Universe and Hole in The Sky are very Heavy song.
