Pros: Smooth 32-player online play; vehicles that are fun and easy to use; worthwhile but brief single-player campaign; presentation values.
Cons: AI nothing to write home about; jerks in the online community.
SOCOM 3, much like its predecessors, controls very well. One of the new control mechanisms added in this game is the ability to swim. Many of the maps in both the single- and multiplayer game feature rivers or other bodies of water, and you can often make a stealthy approach by swimming. You can't fire your gun from in the water, but you can submerge yourself for a limited time, making you all but invisible in the partially translucent water. You can play SOCOM 3 from either a third- or a first-person perspective, and some aspect of realism has been worked into the gameplay design. Though you can take several hits before going down, the accuracy of your weapons is reduced greatly when you're on the move. You can improve your aim stability and stealthiness by kneeling or going prone, or by firing in short bursts instead of going full auto. The actual feel of moving and shooting in SOCOM 3 is one of its primary strengths. Everything feels solid and strikes that fine balance between realism and fun. If you have a heavy machine gun, for example, you will get much more accuracy from snapping on a bipod and going prone than from shooting from the hip. Silenced weapons don't pack quite as much punch as unsilenced guns, and submachine guns are much easier to control than rifles. You also get great visual feedback from hitting the enemy; they'll react appropriately when shot, limp or stumble away if wounded, and squirt some overexaggerated but satisfying blood spray when hit.
Pros: more people for online gaming; new maps in the socom store
Cons: the registering with the credit card even though it doesn't card they want your information
I have Socom 1,2, and 3 and I love them all... I must admit Socom 3 @ first was weird since I was so use to Socom 2 but soon as i got the hang of it mannnnnn it was LOCK AND LOAD time....
Pros: everything
Cons: nothing
It was awesome, perfect, ubelievable.
Pros: Good play control, new maps, unlockable weapons, lots of users online
Cons: Credit Card required for clans and ranking online, still several glitches and bugs but slight improvement
In my opinion SOCOM is the best third person shooter I've ever played. It has solid play control, but still bugs on certain areas of certain maps. Some old weapons are back, some new ones added, but this time you'll have to beat the game offline on the hardest setting to use either your IW-80 or STG-77. I like the fact though that they make you actually play the game and that the offline story is much improved. If you are looking for a good online shooter for PS2, you can't go wrong here. Unless you don't have a credit card. You can still join certain rooms online without being registered, but in order to be ranked or be in a clan you will need a credit card. They won't charge you anything, but without it you are SCREWED.
Pros: Great Sound, Nice Graphics, Better online play than SoCom2
Cons: Weak A.I., Bad online play? (for some), Server issues
**Let's start off by saying, SoCom 3 :U.S. Navy SEALs is THE game every SoCom fan was waiting for. But is this the ULTIMATE SoCom? We'll discuss the pros and the cons in this review.**
*Pros*:
I played this game on a normal projection TV. The game itself supports HDTV (480p) so ppl with HDTVs can experience a nicer presentation of the game. The Sounds were great. From Gunfire to radio speeches and enemy voices (even though i had no idea what they were saying untill i read the captions). It made you feel like if you were actually in the whole experience. The online play is a hot topic. The maps are bigger than socom2 and now multiplayer supports up to 32-players with very mininum lag issues. Some ppl might disagree with having bigger maps because of how long it has increased round lengths but this can all be changed by the host before he creates the game.
*Cons*:
I found the A.I. to be extremely weak in SoCom3. In fact, there is no point to start off singleplayer campaign in the easiest difficulty. You can just set to hardest difficulty and get through the game with ease even if you are a noob. Now, for some of you, having a stupid enemy that cant aim might be good but the exact same "dumb" A.I. is also implemented in your team-mates. Sometimes it is so frustrating to get your team-mates to do what you command that you end up completing the mission all by yourself without their help. The weak A.I. is definitely an issue, but for players who only bought this game to play online, it shouldnt be a problem. Now let's talk about the online play.. Zipper Interactive decided that "to get rid of 'cheaters', we'll only let the ppl who have a credit card or access to one to be able to play". I couldnt think of a dumber idea. By allowing only ppl with access to credit cards to play, they killed most of their younger fans and also did NOT reduce the number of cheaters whatsoever. What's even more frustrating is that the servers of SoCom3 are usually down or under maintainence. One of the biggest complaint players is that the ranking system is always messed up. Now saying that... if you dont mind the server being down all the time and have a credit card, the online gameplay is great.
*Rest*:
Keeping all this in mind, SoCom 3 is definitely still one of the best online multiplayer games out there for ps2. With features such as being able to sync with psp Socom: Fireteam Bravo and self custimization of weapons. It's for certain that this game serves a whopping of fun.
*Buy Or Rent?*:
I wouldnt suggest EVERYONE to buy this game. Not everyone is into shooters, but i would suggest everyone to rent this and try it out first before you have any say.
*Ultimate SoCom game?*:
Nope, still awaiting for the next one. But it's close, with just a few problems.
Pros: great all around
Cons: very few problems
i love socom 3, i have been playing ever since the first one. the game is really great. the online play is awsome, and the vehicles (boat, hummer, tank)are great as well. online with 32 people in 1 game is probably my favorite part.
