This collection of children's songs by Barney and his friends Baby Bop and BJ is not as engaging as the first three efforts from the folks at Lyrick Studios, but it's not for a lack of trying. Barney's enthusiasm is almost catching, and BJ and Baby Bop are as irrepressible as always. But the zest has declined with each of the releases, and while new music arranger David Bernard Wolf is certainly capable, there isn't the sense of sheer joy that Philip Parker and the cast of Barney and Friends brought to the first couple recordings. That's not to say that this album is a failure. Many of the songs are traditional and familiar regardless of whether kids have seen the award-winning show, while others are newly written for this recording. And the quality of the performances is still well above average.

Biography

Barney

It has often been said that the ultimate purpose of rock and roll, in all of its many mutations, is to annoy one's parents; if that's true, then Barney may well be the ultimate rock 'n' roller. Of course, as a doughy purple dinosaur aimed directly at the toddler market, Barney lacks considerable street credibility, but perhaps no musical entity in years has proven quite... Read more
