Even though the series was the view of 1 family line the story tells the truth of american history!!! The focus was more on the Dark Side of Slavery but there isn't a bright side if you think about it.

Pros: The Greatest Mini-series of All Time.

Cons: They don't Show It Often.

I watched this mini-series as a kid and proud I watched it with my family. This series was a historical drama and presented the viewpoint of African Americans told in an nonstereotypical manner. All I can say is that Roots should be required viewing... because although it shows the shameful legacy of Slavery and Jim Crow and how it affects African Americans today. I would watch the series on TV One and recommend it to anyone who hasn't watched it yet. Yes the violence is hard to watch, the difference between the violence you see in movies and in Roots is that the brutality actually happened. If you don't watch it on TV One, rent it and support this drama that deserves to be seen. Read more Less
