Ron Griffiths was the original bassist for Badfinger, although he was gone by the time they started to gain international attention. In the mid-'60s, he joined the Wild Ones, a Swansea band that also included future Badfinger member Pete Ham. The Wild Ones changed their name to the Iveys on Griffiths' suggestion, after a local street. By the time the Iveys started recording for Apple in 1968, the lineup included Griffiths, Ham, drummer Mike Gibbins, and guitarist Tom Evans. Griffiths did some writing for the Iveys, most notably the track "Dear Angie," which somehow managed to find its way onto a Japanese-only single. He also played on some tracks that were issued under the name Badfinger after the Iveys changed their name in late 1969, including the hit single "Come and Get It." Griffiths became ill with the chicken pox, missing some late 1969 sessions before getting pressured to resign from the band. He was replaced by Joey Molland, right before the first records came out bearing the Badfinger name.
