Guitarist Ron Affie's debut recording offers bright, often impressive performances done in vintage swing/mainstream form from the 27-year-old Pittsburgh native. It's heavy on standards, and his renditions of shopworn numbers like "Time After Time," "Blues In The Closet," and "How Deep Is The Ocean" are respectful, cleanly played, and efficiently delivered. The rhythm section featuring pianist Brian O'Rourke, bassist Andy Simpkins, and drummer Colin Bailey likewise is effective. This serves as a fine introduction to a good, potentially outstanding player, who shows a thorough knowledge of the idiom and its traditions.
