Almost as fun as a real Rock Band

Pros: Party with friends and family

Cons: Guitar Hero fans may find guitar parts lacking

There's nothing that really compares to a jam session with your friends or performing on stage in a band. This is the very next best thing. Learn rhythm, belt out tunes like Mick Jagger or Steven Tyler and grind a guitar or 2 all at the same time. Up to 4 people functioning as a band, what better legal experience for any group to share?

There are complaints about the guitar, mostly from people who have a preference for a guitar they already own.

Love this game. Recommend it to anyone as worth twice the asking price.

Harmonix releases another unfinished holiday title

By Jake  Nov 22, 2007 | 0 out of 2 found this Rock Band review helpful

Pros: Graphics are standard. Easy to jump in.

Cons: Boring drums, mainstream/uninspired song list, lack of bundle selections upon release.

Everyone knows that Harmonix doesn't lower prices on their games, they just re release with new hardware that works properly or has features the original hardware should have had.
Caught up in big business funding, a once great idea for a game has become the next victim of pop culture hype sure to disappoint many gamers, yet probably excite gamers 14 and under and the casual crowd that buys 3-4 games a year. It will be a nice addition to their Madden/Halo 3/insert other sports title or GH2 collection.
The good news is it gives PS3 gamers something to play once they are done with Uncharted and R&C:ToD. The multiplayer fun factor is laughable as I play a solid game of Call of Duty 4. A party game...sure. However, Wii reigns supreme at college parties. I can't attest for any others.
The song list is uninspired and features many pop rock songs with some being so overplayed on the radio still that it makes it tasking to play the game sometimes. DLC will provide some aid, and it is debatable but I actually feel the $2 for song or $5 3 song pack is priced right.
Gameplay seems to have taken a step back because the track list is tied into it and the drums don't help...one bit...at all. I can't stress enough how many people are going to be disappointed with this peripheral. With the guitar peripheral, it is immersive. You go through the motions and forget it is a peripheral, even though it is nothing close to a real guitar. With the drums you always know it is a perpipheral and I never got that sense of immersion because they are made for you to tap. It's fun hit a drum. It isn't fun for most to repeatedly tap a drum like they are in a marching band.
Technically the game holds up, with standard graphics and easy to use menus. I'm curious to see a revision of the drum peripheral. The song list is truly love or hate because it is sooooo mainstream. Mainstream doesn't always = bad, but when it is overdone, it feels like it felt when one of your favorite artists 'sold-out'.
