    Pros: cops

    Cons: creeps

I first saw robo when I was 8, I thought it was the sickest movie ever! And it still is. My girl almost threw up watching it, and she's in her 20's. But robocop has the total package.

I have been a huge Robocop fan for a long time and this movie rocks. So does the second, until Peter Weller decided to not do the third installment. That is when it went all to hell.

    Get the Criterion DVD....

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 14, 2003

if you can still find it.i got mine at http://www.dvdempire.com they still had a few copies there. anyway, if you get the criterion DVD, you'll see the uncensored Director's Cut version of the film. It has some awesome bloody shots that was cut from the theatrical release to get an R-rating. Anyway stay away from the crappy MGM dvd.

Very Good but could be better!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 2, 2002

This is basically a story of a cop who gets mutilated and killed by a gang of thugs and is reborn as a robot police officer with vague memories of his former self. Once he figures out who he is he discovers an entire conspiracy leading from the low-life thugs that murdered him all the way to the senior vice president of the company that created him. The story and characters are excellent and very intertaining. But the only reason I took off one star from my 5 star rating is because of techonical issues. I was not satisfoied with some bloopers that appear on film. The most obvious ones are the magazine capacities of weapons used and the shooting scenes. When ED-209 snaks on Kenny we can see the large caliber rounds slicing through him like a hot knife through butter, but for some reason the glass panes behind him do not shatter. Also when the thugs are creaming Murphy there is a giant window behind him and the shotgun blasts do not break it. And when Clearance shoots off Murphy's hand why don't we see sparks and dust from the shotgun pellets striking the concrete? Why didn't Verhoven see and correct that?

And how the fuck does Robocop, in all three movies, survive car frires, itense gun battles, and torture and not get his face damaged. Why do so many crooks fail to shoot him in the face????

Simply one of the Best Sci-Fi EVER!!!!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 11, 2002

Anyone that thinks a child should be allowed to watch this, should check the R rating again. It is there for good reason, but there is simply NOTHING that detracts from this film! An excellent storyline, good actors in excellently written parts, all helmed by one of the best Sci-Fi director's in filmdom. This movie is as dark and foreboding as the comic book series was. An absolute MUST HAVE for any true Sci-Fi fan!

Too violent? Not really, but still exce

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 7, 2002

Part man. Part machine. All cop.

RoboCop is up there with Terminator and Aliens as one of the greatest sci-fi action flicks of all-time. Is it too violent? Not really, compared to newer movies of the same kind.

    Good But Too Violent

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 3, 2002

At first, the idea of a half robot, half human cop ridding the crime filled streets of Detroit seemed like a children's / teenagers movie but after watching it, I found it to be the exact opposite. Robocop is the story of cop Alex Murphy being tranformed into the perfect machine after being executed by a gang of thugs. Programmed to be nothing more than an alleviation to crime, Murphy soon has flash backs of what happened to him and then comes to realise and accept what he is. None the less, he is determined to seek justice on those who stole his life away from him. This movie is filled with enjoyable action sequences, but the violence is very strong and graphic. Beware of the scene where Murphy is killed at the beginning because you will literally see violence at its highest and it will leave you with a bad feeling in your stomach.

    RoboCop is Verhoeven's best.Total Recall,Basic Instinct,Showgirls,Starsh
ip Troopers and Hollow Man was good but RoboCop was and still is the best. It's all about whether if the man or machine is in control of honored hero. The director's cut is amazing.

    CRITERION DVD...

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 12, 2001

Finally, Robocop can be viewed as intended. Criterion gives the x-rated Director's cut in it's full glory! Very crisp picture and extremely useful commentary giving helpful insight into some of the film's symbolism and figurativeness. Without a doubt one of the best films to own on DVD for any Sci-Fi fan. Interestingly enough...Robocop was well ahead of its time for 1987, but the sequels ruined anyone taking it serious these days. -Nate

What comic based movies should be.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 6, 2000

When I first saw this movie I thought it was one of the best science-fiction movies I've ever seen. As years went by I continued to enjoy this movie and after seeing all the horrible comic-based movies out there like "Batman and Robin" and "Superman IV" came to appreciate Robocop more with it's dark and gritty atmosphere. I really feel that comicbook-based movies could really learn alot from Robocop with it's strong characterization and it's commenting on society as a whole.

    So many hidden messages.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 15, 2000

This film is sheer brilliance for so many reasons. Most watch it and either enjoy the story or hate its apparent 2 dimensional appearance, yet in truth this film has massive political and social undertones that the critics and the so called intellectuals missed. Watch the adverts and newsbreaks and pay close attention to what director Paul Verhoeven is actually saying, for this is his finest hour and even Starship Troopers doesn't begin to touch on the complexity of what was portrayed in this movie. Watch it. Watch it again. watch it for at least a third time, and see just how many comments you can spot.

A comic enthusiast's dream come true!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 3, 2000

This was a unique film in the sense that it took the superhero concept on turned it upside out and inside out. This film took the oridinary superhero and placed him in a twisted, sadistic, and perverted setting, with tremendous R-rated violence and bloodshed galore. Note that RoboCop himself resembles Cyclops of the X-Men (who actually makes his film debut this Summer courtesy of 20th Century Fox). This movie is a comic book geek's wetdream.

    Funny & Violent

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 20, 1999

It might look silly in the late 90s, but in the context of the 80s, this movie is brilliant. Sarcastic look at a not-too-near future where the police is run by a private corporation. Robocop is very violent and somewhat cartoonish but it's smart.
