What a fantastic double album! This one is a lot better than the previous 'Badlands' and, if not my favourite Bruce Springsteen record, in the top three. In fact it is very difficult to point out the best Springsteen album, but if you are doubting which one to buy, I recommend you buy this one.
The first disc is better than the second. Why? In the second you can hear acceptable songs, but in the first you hear incredible songs. The Ties That Bind, Jackson Cage, Independence Day, Hungry Heart, and most importantly, the track that names the album: The River. The River has to be included in Springsteen's best songs. The lyrics are superb, the background vocals as well and it is the haunting harmonica that gives the song the strength, bitterness and hope to label it as a classic in music.
It is very important to realize that most of The Boss's songs have got a lot of social content and criticism towards those who have the power of doing good and, not only don't they do it, but they bury the downtrodden even more down in the misery of their lives. The River(album) is one full of blue-collar feeling, it talks of the American People who haven't seen the promised land, of whose to which the American dream is just a dream and serves as an impressive depiction of the American way of life and credentials, the way they said it was and the way it is.
Beautiful songs such as Independence Day fill this album and on the second disc other very good songs appear such as my favourite on the second disc, The Price You Pay. This music is alive, if you are alive, appreciate this music: this is rarely seen and Bruce Springsteen's honesty and views are universal.
The talented Mr. Springsteen will continue not only to be heard, but also to be listened to.
...thats not a greatest Hits or a compilation of Songs better than this...you can't.
The blue collar voice that pours with emotion is so obvious in perhaps his best album to date. The River takes ou down a journey through raw emotion from beginning to end.
Ama sadece birini ona göre
Combining energetic rockers with brooding ballads, The Boss has created another timeless musical collection. The best rock songs include the similar themed "The Ties That Bind" and "Two Hearts", the edgy "Jackson Cage", his big hit "Hungry Heart", the working class tribute "Out in the Street", and the undeniably fun "Crush on You" and "Ramrod". His best ballads include "Independence Day"--a father-son song, the chilling "Point Blank" and "Stolen Car", the melodic "The Price You Pay", the haunting closer "Wreck on the Highway", and the tear-inducing title track. Simply fantastic.
