Pros: Pearl Jam Rocks
Cons: Good Charlotte, Seether, Hoobastank, Nickelback, Puddle of Mudd and all the rest of them poppy bands suck!
"F- me if you only hear what you wanna hear. F- me if I care,.. but i'm not leaving here." -Pearl Jam
In other words, if Pearl Jam's music stinks as some have noteably mentioned, then f- Pearl Jam if they're gonna be making music to the likes of a bunch of panzies that think they're experts on music. No! What Pearl Jam should've said is F- You!
Pearl Jam kicks a**! No matter how old they get. If The Rolling Stones can barely rock when they're music really sux and even Michael Jackson gets recognized for his ever-changing nose, how much more is Pearl Jam gonna do when they have been copied by many sucky bands that are played on the radio and just the fact is that no band on the face of the earth is able to do what Pearl Jam does.
And to all of you out there that call yourselves fans of Pearl Jam but don't know how to give good reviews, yeah, well all of the above is for you too! If you're a fan of Pearl Jam then I'd expect you to say this album kicks a** along with the other ones! If you can't do that then go watch Britney kiss Madonna or something.
Kurt Cobain once said that if you're gonna do music it doesn't mean that you have to play it perfect just as long as you play it with passion. Well, Kurt, your buddies from Pearl Jam did just that!
I don't have to describe the music, especially when it makes you sound really gay! Just listen to the music and if you like it then you like it but if you don't then you don't!
whil i am not as anger as the fellow below me wow man chill i know the album sucks but jezz you are gonna have a heart attack!anyway this album is just like perl jams last 2 albums boring 1 song is good the rest is not bad but not good.it is like over cooked tri tip it taste like tri tip but it is old and over cooked just like this album oh well i guess sucess makes you old boring and not good yawn ! that is all
Do all of you PJ fans convince your selves that this album is good or are you guys that stupid that you dont know anything about music. This album has got to be the worst album after NO CODE. Im a PJ fan. My first album that i got from PJ was Yield and loved it. Then I got TEN and loved it even more. the point is just cause your a die hard fan doesnt mean you have to like every album that comes out. This album really really diappointed me. Eddie pissed me the !@#$ off. Why ... cause I know he can do much better than this. Its sooo bad i put it on and my dog starts howling like a bitch. I dont know I guess if you die hard fans got
Now a statement to PJ:
Yo PJ what the
I have been a hardcore fan since Ten, and PJ amazes me once again with Riot Act.
Its range and emotional sound are truly remarkable.
From all out rockers like Save You to slowed down meaningful songs like Thumbing My Way to poignant fun tunes like Cropduster, this album has it all!
I know..its been several months now since the release, but Im gonna post my opinion anyway.
I respect peoples opinions, but come on, some of you people are still looking for another 10? You should have known after hearing Vs. that you would never get another 10. Pearl Jam could have stuck with the winning equation and pumped out more 10-esque tunes, but they chose to evolve. Still, 6 albums later, you are still crying about it. 10 is a great album, but you people cant honestly say that you cant tell a difference in musical (as well as artistic) growth since 10. I think they just keep getting better musically. Listen to Save You, CropDuster or even You Are.
I will say that the lyrics are more straightforward than previous albums, and that may dissapoint some people, but think of what Pearl Jam (as well as the rest of our country) were going through at the time they wrote the album (Roskilde, 9/11). It was time to play straight ahead and get a point across, which they definitely do on this album (Love Boat Captain, Bu$hleaguer). When you people stuck in 1991 realize that bands evolve and grow up, take another listen to Riot Act and try to appreciate a truly talented and unique band that doesnt sell out.
Definition: From simple to complex.
Riot Act is an evolutionary milestone. Deep, introspective, socially conscious and textured. Pearl Jam have created a great album. After seeing them perform their new material live in Denver and Cleveland, I have an even greater appreciation. If you value PJ, youll value Riot Act.
ive been listening to pearl jam since 1991 and every time that they released a new album its much better, no doubt theyve been growing and growing as musicians...
One word describes this work of art and it is "Brilliant". i wish i could know these men and maybe even just tour with them our something. i love pearl jam.
chase
There hasn't been and will never be a sucky Pearl Jam album.....
I mean, they definitly have put out better, and this album isn't earth shattering, but it's still pretty damn good. Although not sure how i feel about eddie's huskier voice. Good Tracks: Love Boat Captain, Ghost, Cropduster, I Am Mine, Save You, Thumbing My Way.
what a stellar release by one of america's best rock bands. very groovy and rich sounding,to hell with the moron who said "grunge has been around for to long"blah, blah, real pearl jam fans always new we didn't belong lumped in with the "grunge" sound anyway, which has been proven with vs.,vitalogy and now this gem. quit trying to label music and listen to it for what it is, four guys rocking there way through some expertly written tunes. go back to listening to your nihilistic crap like linkin park and staind, eddie is alive and well!
When will Grunge really disappear. Nu-Metal and all other Mallcore bands need to die. Come On, man! I mean please bring back good old classical music nowadays! This boring music has been going on for long time right now.
Overall, a good listen. Nothing earth-shattering but enjoyable. Standout cuts: "Love Boat Captain", "I Am Mine", "Cropduster", and "Save You".
Great album, very fresh. I am glad they are still pounding out the stuff! This is a must buy!
Lets face it people, even if you are a fan. Pearl Jam has been a dead band for yrs. And its sad cause they are a very talented band they just stuck that talent up their ass somewhere! Ten will always be there best album
musically and lyrically. Im not expecting them to come out with another ten album. Im expecting them to come out with another album that will pump me up and a whole new generation just like they did with TEN. Eddie sounds like an old
First off, this album is not Ten. It is not the early 1990s. Grunge is no longer an MTV buzz word. And yes ladies and gentlemen, Pearl Jam are getting old.
That being said, this album is incredible. It shows the band growing up (and growing out of whatever horrible mental illness caused the creation of Binaural...) The songs on this album are incredible and show a great deal of musical genius. "You Are," one of the first songs that really grabbed me, and oddly hasn't been mentioned by anyone so far, may be one of the greatest Pearl Jam songs in the last ten years.
Is this album better than Ten? Probably not. Is Ten better than this album? Well, probably not. The thing is they're different albums. Ten is a big in-your-face rock record...one of the best ever for that matter. This album is an emotional, down to earth album. It's darker and more mellow than Ten and it shows a band that has been touring and making great records for over 10 years.
Buy this album. Don't download it. Download Jay-Z and Britney and Limp Bizkit and whatever other no-talent wonders TRL is pushing these days. Give your money to bands who deserve it for putting out incredible music year after year.
What a comeback for Pearl Jam! This is much better than their previous effort Binaural. This album is amazing! I can't stop listening to it. There is not one song that I can skip. My favorite songs are Save You, Cropduster, Love Boat Captain, Ghost, Get Right and I Am Mine - but every song is cool. There were only three songs on Binaural that were actually worth listening to (Light years, Grievance, and Insignificance). Although there were other decent ones like Nothing As It Seems and God's Dice, but it just really didn't do much for me. Riot Act actually sounds like a mix of all there albums. Save You kind of reminds me of Whipping; Cropduster - Corduroy; Can't Keep - something off of No Code; Love Boat Captain - kind of like something off of Yield; Bushleaguer definitely has the dark sound off of Vitalogy. Vitalogy used to be my favorite album from them, but I'm actually starting to like this more. If you are someone who thinks that Ten is the best, then you may not like this as much as I do. I don't really like Ten too much actually, the first 6 songs are awesome but the rest of the album just isn't too special. I think all of you who gave this album a low rating should give this album a chance. Save You is the next single, that's great because it's about time they released another hard song to the radio. I hope they release Cropduster and Love Boat Captain as well. All in all, it's a great album. Definitely a classic. Get it now! 1. Riot Act 2. Vitalogy 3. Vs 4. Yield 5. No Code 6. Ten 7. Binaural
There are a couple really good songs and then a ton of filler. This is the first really disappointing effort from one of my favorite rock bands. Maybe next time...
Pearl Jam incites a riot! Hordes fill the streets and promptly fall asleep!
Listening to this makes me feel tired. I Am Mine is good as well as some Cameron tunes, but overall it is an album written by weathered old men.
After listening to the album once, I was unimpressed. Then, I listened to it again and again, and it definately grows on you, as have the past 3 or so albums from Pearl Jam. I will say ,however, that there seems to be a lack of emotion and energy from the band, and maybe its because they are tired of simply 'banging heads'. Eddie seems disinterested, and some of the songs are starting to sound very similar to ones they have already made. I was hoping for a little more innovation, perhaps including some samples or loops on a song or two? But - we get what we've always gotten (which still works I think) - straight up rock and roll.
Overall, this band is still making excellent music and their ability to stick together after all the Seattle crap is amazing.
I still think the only true way to experience these guys is LIVE, or maybe check out the DVD. Once I hear the songs live, I am totally blown away. For example, if you caught the Letterman show(s) last week, you would know what I'm talking about. CD or vinyl does not do these guys justice.
As a lover of all Pearl Jam albums except for No Code, I have been eagerly awaiting this album. I have to say I am disappointed. I ran out and bought it on release day, and did not post a review until now since I wanted Riot Act to "soak in" a bit. I think there are some really good songs but a lot of it is just average to me. I don't think the album is terrible, because it's not - I was just expecting so much more. This CD does make me want to listen to Yield or Binaural, though!!
This one will be a classic. True to form.
This album is incredible. Pearl Jam always puts out the best tunes possible and I'm lovin it. I can't say which is Pearl Jam's best album because they are truly all the best, there's no way for me to choose. These guys ROCK, and of course so does RIOT ACT!!!!!!!!!!
as you can see my name, I am a Pearl Jam fan. While all the 1 and 2 star ratings were very eloquent ("stinks", "10 was the best album ever") . . .
Anyway. First I would recommend that interested persons review the New York Times article "Music; Pearl Jam Turns Pop Fame on Its Head: Less Is More"
My opinion: musically one of their best yet. Lyrically, I am still deciding. The point is Pearl Jam gets 4 stars for staying true to themselves, not making albums for those that are still driving around 1991 Camaros and wanting 10. This is why they are going to be remembered 20 + years from now, along with James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, and others. Personally, I feel that the more people put them down for not doing what they did before, the better. Those that want the simple songs about their simple life, watch MTV
Those that have had life experience and spend their free time pondering unanswerable questions about the world and self, Eddie Vedder is writing for you.
Another hum-drum CD from Pearl Jam. I really, really, really want to like this one. But, it is clear they just have lost their spark... their anger? their voice? I don't know. The best they can do is write a cutesy anti-Bush song? "Tweet! 15-yards, piling on!"
And, the production is yet again lousy. Can't these guys afford a decent studio? It sounds muddy, flat...
Wait for this one to show up in the used CD bin right next to Binaural.
