Pros: none
Cons: everything
After receiving this gadget for my 23rd birthday from my father, I thought this would be something nice to have while working, studying and other various activities. I was congenial upon reception, considering I had previously asked for an iPod. After about two hours of having this product I feel I would have been better off with a Discman from the early 90's. Not only were the headphones completely uncomfortable, but also the back button (or rewind, or reverse, or what have you) on it did not work. I simply disregarded this for now. Later on, as I was playing some cards with my friends, I was using the "Rio" to keep me entertained. It was at this point that I noticed that it had started to turn off all the sudden. I simply thought it was just low on batteries. After the card game was over, I went back to my place where I had an extra battery and replaced the old one. It didn't work. Then I ventured to the store to buy a new pack of batteries. It still did not work. After awhile of calmly examining the device, I turned it back on again and this time it had worked, then the software on my computer for "Rio music manager" had problems opening. After I fixed this problem, would you believe it, the mp3 player was not working again. This went on for two hours. There are so many expletives I would love to use to describe this shoddy piece of craftsmanship, and it is safe to say I am never going to buy another product or even except a gift from the Rio brand ever again. Spend you money wisely, buy an iPod.
Pros: Easy to use, Batteries last a long time, small
Cons: Uses MMC cards, only 32mb internal, no FM tuner
I have had this MP3 player (Rio S10) for about a year. It never seems to need batteries. I use it an hour or so a day when I jog. You can add storage space with MMC cards up to 128mb each. I have a 64mb card plus the 32mb internal memory. Total this will hold about 2 hours of music or so. I understand that some people use SD cards in this machine but my understanding is that the SD card will not work properly. MMC cards are harder to find and SD is more main stream. (think Beta versus VHS).
The controls are very easy to use. The software is easy to install and use, even when I am jogging. It will search for music already on your computer. Works about like Windows Media player on your computer.
It comes with software, earbud type headphones, usb sync cable and soft case that fits over the player. Uses 1 AAA battery. I received this as a gift and have been very happy with it. I wish it had a built in FM tuner and I wish the clock was larger on the display. It also has a stopwatch feature which might be handy for some people.
Pros: Large, Easy to read screen
Cons: Big, Not enough Memory,
The Rio S10 MP3 player isnt very great it has an OK sound quality
Pros: Good color
Cons: Starts to fall apart
If you just testing Mp3 players out to see if you like them or not this ones good. But a little after 6 months (if you use it a lot) it starts to fall apart. The button that you change tracks with starts to fall off, then it's hard to change songs. Then the pieces inside start to come off and you can hear them making noise inside you pick it up. The pieces start to get in the screen area. But it was a nice Mp3 player but I guess I used it an awful lot.. but you should be able to. It's not worth 100 dollars, but maybe 50 only if your seeing if you like mp3 players though.
Pros: No moving parts, easy to operate
Cons: sd cards somewhat expensive
I have had this player for a little over a year and love it. It is very easy to work with and has a sufficient number of features. The latest software upgrade also allows it to be used as a portable drive for non-music files. It works well on Win 98 or XP. I don't use the rio software, instead I use Real Player 10 to transfer my songs, works better for me because I alreay have playlists compiled. Overall a good value for a solid little player. I don't need 10,000 songs, just enought ot get me through a plane ride or workout.
Pros: Can Hold up to 640 MB of Memory, Carrying Case is nice
Cons: None, Headphones not comfortable
My first MP3 Player I bought and it works, installing flash cards for music is easy and the software works like a charm on my Windows XP system. I also was impressed with how easy it is to move tracks from your computer to the player. Otherwise overall great player.
Pros: Clearest Music on MP3 I ever heard
Cons: JUST GREAT
Small and rugged, Great quality fo MP3 playbacks, fast music processing. OVERALL I THINK ITS GREAT
Pros: plays well, easy to carry
Cons: the rio music manager that comes with it is not good, the player won't connect to the computer very well
When I first got the mp3 player I was a little suprised at the size because it was very small. I installed the Rio Music Manager that came with it on to my computer. I connected it to my computer and transfered my songs to the player. Now when I pull the music manager up it won't connect but when the one time it does it won't transfer or delete songs. I am upset I wasted my money on this. Also when I got it I thought that 64 MB was alot but it can only store like 12 songs. You can add memory to it but you spend even more money than you did on the mp3 player. Don't buy it. I think I might try to sell mine on ebay or something.
Pros: light weight, easy to use
Cons: sound quality
I bought the rio because i really wanted an MP3 Player at the time and i wanted to test out a fairly affordable player before i bought anything too pricey....the player itself is easy to use and very light weight which was a great plus for me and it really did beat carrying a cd player+ CDs....although it does have an expandable card slot i still think it more reasonable to buy a player with a few gigs because cards are fairly expensive and i still can't get as many songs on the player with a few cards as i could with a 10 gig device(the player itself was $70+(2) 256mb cards at $100 a piece, a few more dollars and you could have a 10gig device).....the main problem i had with the s10 is the volume and sound quality....if i got close to the max volume on player it would freeze and i would have to restart it...also after only a few weeks the screen began to look damaged so i took the player back! I'm just going to break down and get the ipod.
Simple to install and use software, Great interface/transfer software. Easy to use player, nice features and great price. Ten minutes to set-up and I was enjoying it my toons with ease! What more could I ask for. I love the RIO S10!!!
I just got my Rio S10 today as an early birthday gift. I was able to get the device working and my songs on it without consulting the manual once. It is small and light, and it offers an excellent price to quality ratio. I also like the case it came with.
Its radio stinks. Everything else is good.
Basically this is the same as the step up Rio, the R30S. Most people go with the R30S because it is newer and more expensive so obviously it must be better, right? Wrong! I have done extensive reviews of each and the only thing that the R30S has is a FM Tuner and more rubber making it water resistant. The FM Tuner on the new version doesnt work worth a flip and the water resistance isnt worth an 85buck upgrade. Back to the S10 anyway, the S10 is by far one of the most easy to use, durable, and cost effective players on the market today. One can play nearly 15-20 hours of mp3 on a single battery. The headphones are a bit cheesy but come on, what stock pair isnt? With a new firmware upgrade at www.riovolt.com one can make the S10 support up to 576MG. Right now I am only using a 256 plus the internal 64MG. Its plenty of space and always keeps new songs coming. Right now at riovolt.com they are selling these babies refurbished for only 79.99 plus a 20buck mail in rebate. Getting one of these for 60buck is a steal! It would be worth 100 bucks or even more if you are in the market for one. Anyway, my point is, this is a great player....no obvious defects apart from the headphones.
Great unit, super case with belt clip, very neat. A bit disapointed with the ear phones, not as comfortable as I would like. Fun to use, and the Rio Music Manger software is a snap to use.
Great value, especially the refurbs. Was disappointed that no manual came with this unit.
Great piece of work (simple and easy to use) ... provided it is compatible with your computer/motherboard. It is not compatible with mine (WinXP, MSI Nvidia Nforce mobo, AMD chip) and so worthless. Couldnt get it to connect to my computer. Turns out I needed newest firmware version. But how can I upload newest firmware if it wont connect to my PC?! Used my roommates computer to upgrade firmware, then it worked on mine. Then, however, I couldnt transfer songs without getting an error saying that it was full when it wasnt! So software keeps crashing when I try to erase the memory and/or transfer songs. Totally worthless now.
On top of that, Sonicblues support SUCKS! They do not respond to emails, their webpage isnt very helpful, and they charge you for phone calls to tech support. Thats ridiculous, especially with such a lousy product. Do not buy this--spend your money on another companys mp3 player.
