    Doesnt work with some computers/motherboards

By jd  Jan 9, 2003 | 21 out of 22 found this Rio S10 review helpful

Great piece of work (simple and easy to use) ... provided it is compatible with your computer/motherboard. It is not compatible with mine (WinXP, MSI Nvidia Nforce mobo, AMD chip) and so worthless. Couldnt get it to connect to my computer. Turns out ...I needed newest firmware version. But how can I upload newest firmware if it wont connect to my PC?! Used my roommates computer to upgrade firmware, then it worked on mine. Then, however, I couldnt transfer songs without getting an error saying that it was full when it wasnt! So software keeps crashing when I try to erase the memory and/or transfer songs. Totally worthless now.On top of that, Sonicblues support SUCKS! They do not respond to emails, their webpage isnt very helpful, and they charge you for phone calls to tech support. Thats ridiculous, especially with such a lousy product. Do not buy this--spend your money on another companys mp3 player. Read more Less

    Work of Art

By Darcy  Apr 17, 2003 | 8 out of 10 found this Rio S10 review helpful

Basically this is the same as the step up Rio, the R30S. Most people go with the R30S because it is newer and more expensive so obviously it must be better, right? Wrong! I have done extensive reviews of each and the only thing that the R30S has is a... FM Tuner and more rubber making it water resistant. The FM Tuner on the new version doesnt work worth a flip and the water resistance isnt worth an 85buck upgrade. Back to the S10 anyway, the S10 is by far one of the most easy to use, durable, and cost effective players on the market today. One can play nearly 15-20 hours of mp3 on a single battery. The headphones are a bit cheesy but come on, what stock pair isnt? With a new firmware upgrade at www.riovolt.com one can make the S10 support up to 576MG. Right now I am only using a 256 plus the internal 64MG. Its plenty of space and always keeps new songs coming. Right now at riovolt.com they are selling these babies refurbished for only 79.99 plus a 20buck mail in rebate. Getting one of these for 60buck is a steal! It would be worth 100 bucks or even more if you are in the market for one. Anyway, my point is, this is a great player....no obvious defects apart from the headphones. Read more Less
