    Pros: sound

    Cons: terrible FM turner, unreliable

Had the unit for about three hours, and while i was transferring a music file it suddenly froze up. Then it shut off permanently. Nothing I did would turn it back on.I chose this model because it has expandable memory, FM radio tuner (crap by the way...), and a replaceable battery (not an internal one like ipod). But it doesnt matter how many features a product has if it doesnt even work. Also, the battery case cover is flimsy and doesnt fit securely.Buyer beware! In order to return it you have to go through various authorization procedures and even then you'll only get replacement of the same model. Read the returns policy carefully!I understand the need for some restrictions on returns, but it just seems to me that if these companies produced a quality product then customers wouldn't have to jump through hoops just to get a refund.my2cents Read more Less

    Amazing MP3

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 8, 2005 | 5 out of 5 found this Rio Forge Sport 512MB review helpful

Pros: Songs, Easy to use, adorable looking

    Cons: FM tuner

I love the Rio Forge 512 MB Sport MP3 Player! It's songs play great, it's easy to use and it is so irrisistably cute! The only downside to this great MP3 is that the FM tuner could use some work - but who needs to listen to the radio when you... could be listening to all your newly loaded songs? I would recomend this to anyone. Read more Less

Pros: Size, Sound, Ease of use

    Cons: software problems

I purchased a Rio Forge last summer, it lasted 4 months then would not work, luckly I purchased an extended warrenty. The new one stopped working after 2 weeks!! I traded it in for an iRiver. I would not buy RIO again..to risky.

Pros: It looks nice and is fairly easy to use

Cons: Very unreliable and just powers off for no reason

I purchased this unit because it was billed as being durable enough for sports use. It's not. A very disappointing purchase. You can find something better.

Nice MP3 Player but there are better alternatives.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 11, 2006

Pros: Light weight, FM Built In, Many Settings, Ease of Use, Rio Music Manager

    Cons: Warranty, Support, Dependability

I've been using this item for the past year and I am happy with it. I take it to the gym and work out with it and it has lasted. The arm band makes workouts really nice. The light weight of the unit makes it almost invisible. Also the FM radio is... great for watching TV at the gym, my gym broadcasts over the FM stations. The unit is very easy to use but the best thing about it is the Rio Music Manager. It is really easy to use and makes Ripping MP3's an easy task. Now for the downside...A 90 day warranty for a "Sport Product" is ridiculous. Most products of this caliber have at least 1 year for manufactures warranty. Support is fully through their website. I do give them kudos on their support on the site once you find what you need, but it takes a while. Now for the big one Dependability. I have had to format this thing more than 6 times in the past year due to errors. Updater show up and the only thing you can do is format the item or try to run the upgrade. Most of the time you can make it work. Also it has a problem with its battery contact. In the beginning you will need to stretch out the internal spring. Final opinion: Nice product but there are other alternatives to this one. Check out the other brands unless you can get a real deal on this one. Read more Less

    some hell of a machine

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 7, 2005

Pros: expandble memory, battery life, FM recorder

Cons: the color but bule is fine

I have had my forge for 1 year. it has held up incredebly well. it has been in the raing, fallen on the floor and is still holding up great. my favirote thing is the expandble memory i can upgrade the memory to 1.5 gigs. i also like the fact that it ...is a flash player. i also get 20 hours on 1 AAA battery. i also enjoy the fm recorder i can download songs from the raido for free. the only bad thing is the color i wish it was silver like the 256. althouhg i think blue is still pretty cool. i am recently looking for another one for my brother. over all i LOVE MY RIO FORGE :) Read more Less

    Rio Sport 512 - broken

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 22, 2005

    Pros: Not much

    Cons: Broke after 6 months

Volume control broke after 6 months. For a sport player? Cheap construction. Tooks weeks of repeated tries to support, answering stupid questions, to eventually be told that they can't fix the product and because their 90 day warranty had expired..., I would have to buy a new one. I will buy a new one, but one with a better warranty and one from a different company. Read more Less

    use on a bicycle

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 21, 2005

    Pros: small lightweight

Cons: needs suport for mini external speakers

I love it. I do not even use the software with it. I just download all of my songs right off of the hard drive. I love it I just wieh there was some type of small outdoor speakers for a bicycle. Just be careful with the ear buds.
