Pros: large capacity for the price
Cons: junky software, poor longevity, poor customer support
My Rio Carbon accepted new content during the 90 day warranty, but it scrambled the order of the playlist. One item was a version of the Bible. Many of the books are out of sequence, and the ends of chapters are sometimes chopped off. After warranty expiration I found that my computer doesn't any longer recognize the device due to a "malfunction". I can't access it. I've tried the online patches and reinstalling the software. The thing still plays, but continues to scramble the order of the content. I won't waste good money on this company's "pay-to-fix" customer service, and I sure won't buy another gadget from them.
Pros: Still has the songs in it
Cons: plastic parts break
Most of these reviews were written after a week or so of having this MP3 player. If you notice the on,off and volume switches on the top, they are plastic. It looks like metal but they are not. You can only bend or press plastic too many times before it breaks off. I called the company about this and they wanted $99 to fix it. Anyone knows you can't press on a plastic piece over and over again. They told me tough luck.
Pros: It has a really long battery life and and the quality is awesome. It has cool options like voice recorder, stopwatch, and preferences to energy saving and custom equalizer. I love all the different categories it gives you for organizing your music. It also holds more songs than those unreliable iPods.
Cons: it doesnt have the famous scroll wheel of iPod or games
Whenever people see it, they ask me how many songs or how much music it holds. i am happy to tell them that it holds 5GB/1250 songs, mentioning that it holds 25 percent MORE than the iPod minis everyone was crazy about. they all try to find ways to make the iPod seem better, but i always prove to them that the rio beats the iPod in battery life, space for songs, and whatever else they question about it. it also weighs less than the iPod mini. my friends all complain about how the battery life on the mini is really short after they've had it a while. but the carbon lasts as long as it says it does- 20 hours. i love the rio carbon also for the price. when i bought it a year ago, it was cheaper than the iPod mini, but had MORE to offer. if you are trying to decide on what to buy, the carbon is the one. i still love it after a year! i have not found any flaws in it yet, and don't expect to!
Pros: Great when it works
Cons: Stopped working after 6 months
I don't recommend Rio products. Sure it was great when I bought it and used it many times last summer. Now it won't take a charge and won't play, and customer support was very uncaring. They will LET me buy a new one from them for $99 since the 90 day warranty expired and it would cost about the same to fix it anyway! I spent $200 on it less than a year ago and now it's junk. Obviously Rio knows they are selling junk or they would warranty it longer, or at least be helpful when you do have problems. I recommend buying a different brand!
Pros: Excellent sound quality,Great storage capacity, Long battery life and easy to use and load onto. Great size.
Cons: I don't like the case it comes with. No belt clip or arm band. Hard to find accessories in many stores.
I love the Rio Carbon but it has its problems. I dont care for the case of the fact that it doesn't hace a belt or arm clip. I ride a Suzuki Z400 Quad Sport and I like to have my tunes when I go out. This is an excellent way to have them. i just wish accessories were more accessable. I am glad I got this instead of the ipod.
Pros: nice to hold, good looking
Cons: restarts itself, volume wheel breaks.
I had the Carbon for about 3 months, then the volume control and scroll wheel jammed in. i was hopping that this could be repaired and sorted out, but Rio refused to repair it as it had been apparently abused???
before its apparently sturdy design failed, it was a good player, althought after a week it started to restart itself.
It's no longer available anyway (in the UK at least) so no one will be losing any more money on this product from Rio.
Pros: battery life, new clear case, design
Cons: fragile scroll wheel, small screen, scratches easily
It was love at first sight. Sleek...the melt-in-your-hand design won my heart. Then the Rio revealed its true self. The second one (the first one went back because there was a gap between the rubber edge and the front face and the buttons did not sit flush...just asking for trouble when dust and sand squeeze in and just didn't look cool) froze up at its debut on the train to the airport in Tokyo. My kids rolled their eyes and my heart sank. I got back to Japan, traded it in for a new one (thank you Yamada Denki!) and resolved never to look back. A month later I noticed the plsstic scroll wheel had been pushed in, although I can't say there was any memorable bump or crash. No volume. Imagine a group of nice mature ladies gathered around trying to listen to the dialogue of a popular radio program (Dr. L) at about 7 on the volume level. We broke up. I took it back, exchanged it for a 5 Gb iRiver H10, and love it. A review for another time.
Sayonara
Pros: none
Cons: This think died on me -- piece of junk
Don't buy this or any hard drive based MP3 player. Flash is the way to go. This think died on me in no time at all. Go ahead ... read the reviews ... the "clicking" noise that you will see mentioned by others ... it's real. This thing will fail on you ... DON'T BUY. There is simply too much to go wrong with these little hard drives, and that's why I'm moving over to flash and I recommend you do the same!
Pros: Small
Cons: The wheel broke without reason
I loved it at first but I hated it later. It looks good and works fine but when i reached to turn the volume up the wheel slid off track and is now worth less. I tried to fix it using many different tutoritals but just ended up not working. I think it needs alot of work.
Pros: good sound
Cons: un-explained failure
Not impressed at all with this player. It started malfunctioning only two months after I purchased it. I cannot put anything on it, when it is plugged into my, or any other computer. RIO claims to have fixed it, but it still will not work. I also do not care for the " carrying case" it comes with (no clip). Overall I would definetly recommend you to continue shopping for another brand. I will never buy another RIO product.
Pros: solid build
Cons: software, headphones, battery
This company sucks. I wish I'd have never dealt with them. I'm on my 2nd player. It has almost no battery. It deletes my playlists. Duplicates songs. It's a nightmare.
Pros: It's completely free
Cons: none
Hey guys I came across this site that's giving away free iPod Nanos and it's completely legit. It's a good way to get an iPod without spending a lot of money for it.
All you have to do is:
1. Sign up at this site http:/

www.ipodnanos4free.com/
default.aspx?r=491242
2. Complete one of the free offers on the page (I did the Stamps.com offer and it was really quick and easy)
3. Refer a few of your friends to sign up too
4. Get your free iPod, that's it!
Pros: Cool design, large memory, long battery life, good sound
Cons: Carrying case is poor
I don't know why everyone goes for the I-pod (besides massive amounts of commercials). This has all the same features as the Mini but is less expensive and in my mind has a cooler design. I use it while jogging all the time - no problems. Really useful software package included, so organizing or changing content is a breeze. The included carrying case is useless, but I have never missed it as the Carbon is small enough to hold in the palm of your hand and the bottom has a rubberized grip on it. The sound on it is terrific, and I have had no problems in any way.
Pros: battery life
Cons: Product Broke, Horrible Customer Service
Volume wheel broke after 3 days. Company sent me a refurb in worse condition than the one I had sent. Company gave me the runaround for 3 months. Lying, saying that they would send me a brand new product, which apparently never became in stock with in 3 months. Do not purchase this product if you seek quality!
