Rick Danko was the bassist and co-lead singer of the Band. He joined the group when it was the Hawks, backup band for Ronnie Hawkins, in the early '60s, and stayed with it when it served as Bob Dylan's backup group in the mid-'60s. As the Band, it was one of the most critically acclaimed acts of the late '60s. After the group retired from live work in 1976, Danko recorded a self-titled solo album.
