It is difficult to look at Dick Twardzik's life and not think "What a waste" A talented bop-based pianist with a very bright future, Twardzik threw it away. In 1951 Twardzik became a major force in the Boston area, playing with Serge Chaloff and appearing on a radio broadcast with Charlie Parker. His bop style, based in Bud Powell, showed signs of individuality as he worked with Charlie Mariano and Lionel Hampton. In 1955 he went on a European tour with Chet Baker but in Paris died of a heroin...
