Pros: A master class in songwriting and musicianship
Cons: Not long enough!
For many, 'Revolver' was The Beatles finest album. It was really from 'Help' onwards that the band's maturity began to flourish.
The album begins with 'Taxman', an unusually acerbic George Harrison song, and the next track, 'Eleanor Rigby', remains one of Paul McCartney's most poignant songs, and the lyrical content is stunning for a man barely in his mid-20s.
Psychedelia flows through this album, and George Harrison unfurls his sitar on 'Love You To'. 'I'm Only Sleeping' and 'She Said She Said' are basically jaunty pop songs with backwards guitar ('Sleeping') and strange, waspish guitar ('She Said'). 'Tomorrow Never Knows' is hardcore psychedelia! A brain-splitting rhythm with sounds going off in all directions.
'Here, There And Everywhere' is a wonderful love song - McCartney's wistful voice, backed by melancholy backing vocals, which neat, understated guitar complements.
'Yellow Submarine' is as famous as a pop song gets, and has even been used to help Russian children speak English. Ringo's chirpy voice was often undervalued (as was his drumming) by musical 'experts'.
'And Your Bird Can Sing' is a thumping, vital rock number, with George's spikey guitar taking the musical honours.
'Good Day Sunshine' is another bright pop song from the Lennon-McCartney songbook, though this seems a Paul song, and, by this time, songs written predominantly by John or Paul were becoming easier to distinguish. 'For No One' is Paul in sad form again. Beautifully plaintive.
The upbeat, uplifting 'Got To Get You Into My Life' is another classic track, covered particularly well by Cliff Bennett & The Rebel Rousers. The brass, and McCartney's vocal, gives it a good soul sound.
1966 was a good year to be English.

Pros: ALL SONGS ARE GREAT!!
Cons: NOTHING TO SAY
"Tomorrow Never Knows" tells all the story; only the Beatles could made a brillant and very fashionable album like this; this album is the father of "Acid Rock", "Alternative", "Pop Rock" and the roots of "Heavy Metal"; simply....THE BEATLES.
Pros: All of it!
Cons: What cons?
From the onset, Revolver is 35 minutes of genius, and is possibly the Beatles best work, even compared to the much-lauded Sgt. Pepper. The Beatles cranked up the bass, explored new lyrical territory, and greatly expanded their sonic palette here. Taxman is bitter, dark and cynical. Eleanor Rigby is cynical, yet manages to be majestic and hauntingly beautiful, and one of Paul McCartneys finest songwriting efforts. Im Only Sleeping is a crawling, druggy acoustic number with hypnotic backwards guitar leads. Love You To is a maze of frantic sitars and tables, the perfect backdrop for Georges utterly pissed-off lyrics. Here, There and Everywhere is a fairly straightforward ballad, and probably my least favorite, but I still like it.
Yellow Submarine is a charming, acid-influenced song sung by Ringo. She Said She Said is Lennons main contribution, and a true treasure, a vital and scathing track. Good Day Sunshine is friendly and optimistic. And Your Bird Can Sing is like a faster version of Im Only Sleeping. The remaining tracks are absolutely magnificent, and capped off with Lennons splendid closer Tomorrow Never Knows, which defies all explanation. Revolver, in short, is a must-have for any collection.
all songs are about 2 minutes, it's a very short and catchy record with great melodies. The Beatles were getting better and better and the result was revolver. this is really the beginning of a great time for the beatles : the white album, sgt pepper would be released a short time after this record
it is a beatles album so that ranks it at the top.... however i too believe it is not their best but remember it is amazing as it was made by the beatles
i believe abbey road is their best and i love sgt peppers and also rubber soul too the rest are genius but these are my favourite 3

Wow, this album blows me away every time I listen to it. This album has some of Paul's beat bass. George really shines on this album. And John is doing what he dose best being John. And I will give Ringo his credit for his vocals on yello submarine. The Best song on the album is tomorrow never knows.
a great album, but not their best. I'll always rate Mystery Tour as their best.
Lennon is really dark here and McCartney is in full bloom with good stuff too. George was playing some great licks. "For no one" ranks as one of my favs and "I'm only sleeping" is really brilliant.
All the songs on here are awesome. I'm 14 years old and this music is timeless
revolver is a good album, yes.
But stop the bull
Both were great bands.
John Lennon, well, John Lennon is a

Great album opener by George Harrison - marvellous raw guitar solo that Kurt Cobain would have been proud of.

"Keeping an eye on the world going by my window" is a great melody line.

A happy, joyous song to play and sing. My personal favourite on the album, and I love the clunky sound of Ringo's drums.
9
And Your Bird Can Sing
80
More great pop writing.
10
For No One
93
Another brilliantly-composed Paul McCartney song, lovely arrangements and melodies. They are still made of hooks, but of sophisticated rather than simple hooks.
11
Doctor Robert
81
A very cool rock song, in the same uptempo style as their 1966 #1 hit "Paperback Writer".
12
I Want to Tell You
78
George Harrison with well-crafted pop.
13
Got to Get You Into My Life
92
The Beatles do an approximation of Motown soul with a classic song, so fresh and crisp to hear even today with the production. Brings a smile.

Tomorrow Never Knows
91
A brutal, raw rock song, with a super, snalrling backwards guitar solo that just sounds brilliant - a touch of genius to think up such inspiring ideas with the willingness to experiment and not just play a song 'straight down the line'.
Average song score for the album: 82 / 100
I think this is the best Beatles album. They were on a whole different level when they wrote this album, and not only managed to top every other band in the world at the time, but even themselves, which is pretty damn special.
Great Stuff!! All songs as usual are lyrical masterpieces. They were in another mind-zone when they were writing the lyrics. Too good to be true!
Paul really comes into his own on this record. It is by far their most eclectic single record and the different styles of music live very well together, nothing seems contrived or odd, in fact it seems naturall to hear 'Got to Get You Into My Life' right into 'Tomorrow Never Knows'.
The Beatles set the stage for studio innovation. There are so many countless artists of today that owe a huge debt to what George Martin and the Beatles accomplished back in 1966.
Simply grand it all is. The lush textures of Here There, the wall of sound in Tomorrow, the humour in Yellow Submarine...a perfect pop album as far as I am concerned!

Recorded in 1966 (a year in which such great artists like Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys and The Kinks would create superb albums) this album is gaining more and more credibility as time passes by. I even believe that this album is a much more favourable album than Sgt. Pepper is in the minds of many people. It even figures as the No 1 album in those all time best album lists.
An excellent album (excellent has become a typical word for Beatles albums) it finds George experimenting deeper into oriental music, John searching for new recording techniques and Paul singing on some of the most memorable songs in history. George Martin has mastered in production (what's new!) and Klaus Voorman has designed a remarkable album cover.
Five stars are (again) few.
We kinda need to give poor paultheblower a chance. I understand why u guys hate him (don't get me wrong I do to) but...well no he is an ass.
they are the best group ever and this is one of their albums at its finest!
"Tomorrow Never Knows" best music & lyrics! John & Paul you are awesome! You will LOVE this song! "And Your Bird Can Sing" Rocks! "I'm Only Sleeping" is my theme song. "Good Day Sunshine" - Paul I can't wait till your new album comes out, you and John are the most talented in history! "Dr. Robert", this song is great! I love Taxman and Eleanor Rigby! You will love this album. "Here There & Everywhere"!!!!!
And one of the best
the bridge from pop to something more psychedelic.
I believe this album has been overrated, but is still a great listen and an important Beatles album to own. The only song I really didn't enjoy was TOMORROW NEVER KNOWS, which sounded to me like a tuneless, psychedelic dirge! YELLOW SUBMARINE I still hate with a vengeance. But mostly the album is sublime with more than enough great songs to deserve 5 stars. George Harrison's spiteful rebuke to the Inland Revenue, Taxman, the sublime I'm Only Sleeping and Elanor Rigby, this albums got it all. An overrated classic but a classic nonetheless!
Revolver ranks as one of the greatest of all time. An album with with timeless music for generations to come...
Revolver, revolutionized the sound of studio experimentation. It is not their best work though. However, they did begin the recordings of backward guitars, which sound really good on TOMORROW NEVER KNOWS and I'M ONLY SLEEPING. The following year JIMI HENDRIX made good use of it, in ARE YOU EXPERIENCED and CASTLES MADE OF SAND. The sounds of classical instruments are more influential then ever on ELEANOR RIGBY, which is mainly Paul McCartney's passion for classical instruments. I never really cared for LOVE YOU TO and George Harrison's Indian influenced music. YELLOW SUBMARINE uses sound effects which sound good, I liked this song when i was a kid, but now is kind of annoying. Remember that THE BEATLES were trying to reach all audiences, including CHILDREN. However, I read how some people don't agree in being number one on VH1. WHO CARES? You people make it sound like is affecting your life, MOVE ON AND GROW UP!!I don't agree either, because you have to think that to rate an album it takes a lot more then opinions from musicians who ranked votes. WHAT MAKES AN ALBUM GREAT? If you rank it as
THE BEST SELLING, then unfortunately is Michael jackson's THRILLER. ( who I hate )
THE MOST INFLUENTIAL, then is SARGEANT PEPPER.
THE LONGEST RUNNING LP ON BILLBOARD CHARTS is PINK FLOYD'S DARK SIDE OF THE MOON. Some people will disagree, some won't. So, how would you rank the greatest album of all time, by sales, by musical influnce, by sound, or by getting a poll of young people to cast their vote, or by getting anyone to cast their vote? Who knows? In my opinion REVOLVER is not their best, but one thing is for sure: THE BEATLES ARE THE GREATEST MUSICAL ACT OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY!! By influences, record sales, sound and passion for the music. Paul Mccartney was awarded the MOST HONOURED MAN IN MUSIC by the Guiness Book of World records in 1979. He sold more number one hits and platinum albums with the beatles and Wings then anybody else before him. They are not my favorite group, but certainly have made an influence on music for many years
greatest ever??? that's a
Just because L.Z. IV didn't make a crappy VH1 poll does not necessarily make Revolver a better album. VH1 is a commercial music station, and arch-purveyors of throwaway pop music. The Beatles made mass-marketted pop music, and like all music of its kind should be thrown in the dumpster. Garbage music should be left in the dustbin along with Britney Spears and Lip Sync!
The Beatles=
now according to VH1 zeppelin 4 is not a good album not on list of 100 greatest albums ever
On Vh1's 100 Greatest Albums of Rock and Roll, Revolver was voted to be the number one album in rock history. Here,There and Everywhere, She Said She Said, and Tomorrow Never Knows are some of my favorites on Revolver.
