Over the last 20 years I've had a number of dark nights that I'm sure now I'd not have been able to get though if it were not for the words and music of Willie Nelson. I met him in 1990 and I can say that -- beyond the fact that he's just an all 'ro...und great guy -- I have to confirm that his eyes are the most intense pair of peepers I've ever encountered. There's no way you would ever be able to lie in the face of this man.... I'm not kidding. When it comes to "Revolutions Of Time", I would say that hard-core Willie fans have already got all of this stuff by now. Since there is nothing new, un-released or otherwise obscure, the value of this set lies in the fact that it's basically the best Greatest Hits collection assembled to date. I'd've certainly liked to have seen more early material or at the very least, out-takes of songs we're all familiar with by now, a.k.a Bob Dylan "Bootleg Series". For the serious fan though, you've got a good compilation of the very best tunes -- crystal clear digital sound -- and some good stuff to read and pictures to look at. If I could have put this collection together, there'd be a lot more pre - '75 material and "Family Bible" at least. Otherwise, it's a good introduction, and still worth the price. Read more Less

  • All Music Guide

Compiling material from Willie Nelson's later career, the box set Revolutions of Time: The Journey 1975-1993 provides a thorough overview of the singer's most popular recordings, as well as some of his most obscure. Divided into three thematic discs -- Pilgrimage, Sojourns, and Exodus -- the box contains most of his hits from the era, including selections from The Red Headed Stranger and Stardust. These songs are on Pilgrimage. Sojourns concentrates on his duets, while Exodus is filled with songs from the late '80s and early '90s. It doesn't round up all of his best songs of the era -- there are still several gems hidden away on the original albums -- but it does provide an effective and thoroughly entertaining portrait of Nelson's later career. Revolutions of Time could be all that the casual fan needs to hear from Nelson's later career, and every country fan should be familiar with much of these songs.

As a songwriter and a performer, Willie Nelson played a vital role in postrock roll country music.
