Here I am again on a review on a zombie film. This film by far takes all the other zombie movies, with Night of the Living dead and Day of the dead along with it. It is a bless to see this movie again after being discontinued. I was probably around 6 years old when I first saw the movie, and it got me into zombie films. I have to admit that it might not be that much scary but it sure changed the image of slow-moving zombies. If all living dead films were to stick on the basis this movie set, the zombie movie making industry would sure be taken more seriously than it is today. This movie has everything, a strong story line, good characters, music, well everything you ask for. The best of all is the price which by the way this movie earns it if it is the best zombie movie ever made. Hopefully in the upcoming future where zombie films seem to be made again we will see such good films like this one. Thanks to MGM for bringing it back!!

I won't bother going into the plot and characters here since that has all been said and done by many others, but I certainly want to mention what a blast it was to finally see 'Return Of The Living Dead' again at long last (and on DVD to boot). I hadn't seen this old High School favorite since the late 1980s, and I have to admit some surprise at how well it holds up years later. The riotous laughs are still there, as are the gross-outs and all of the great little background details (the eye-chart in the warehouse office, for example) that made this such a twisted delight when it was on Cinemax way back in 1986 and 1987.
**EXTRAS**
The audio commentary was pretty amusing at times, and very self-deprecating at others (Dan O' Bannon, while having grown proud of the film over the years, still loves to point out the technical shortcomings as they come up) and is definitely worth a listen to devoted fans of the film.
I wish I could say the same for the featurette, which doesn't really add a whole lot more to the experience than I had hoped. Sure, the conversations are spiked with humor and we are shown some really nice conceptual art, but very little else is offered up. Too bad.
The expected addition of the old movie trailers and commercials, however, is where this DVD really stumbles. I have no issue with the two cinematic trailers offered up (which I'm glad I hadn't seen before ever watching the movie as they give too many of the nasty surprises away), but running the exact same twin TV teasers over and over again with only Mr. Movie Voice saying "Advance Showing This Friday" or "Opening August 19" instead of "Opening Next Friday" gets *really* grating -- simply showing two of these would have sufficed.
Anyway, while the extras may be a bit underwhelming as a whole, it's the gleefully black-hearted main attraction itself that counts the most, and it's still well worth the bucks and a must-see for anyone who likes their zombie films served up with brains (excuse the pun) and a wink.Was this review helpful? this was the very first movie that ever scared me, i was probably about 10 when i watched it, and it scared the crap out of me, i watched it again about a year ago on tnt, and it still has it, its just awesome. may be the very best horror movie ever made, only second to the original halloween, myers is my hero

R.O.T.L.D is truly a work of art. I waslittle when I first saw this. And its been one of my favorite horror movies ever since. The movie is actually a horror/comedy, and an effective one at that.A Great cast,great effects and one hell of a fun story! the other 2 were okay

One of the best Zombie ficks ever. What the hell is wrong with the video industry? I mean, after YEARS of complaints we are just now starting to get all of the good movies on DVD; Big trouble in little china, the last dragon. I mean, why are all 3 of the air buds on dvd, but no return of the living deads? WAKE UP!!!

After DAWN and DAY, RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD is next on my list for the best zombie movie. The black comedy is great for laughs with friends and it spoofs NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD in the best of ways. A gas covers a small towns cemetary and reanimates the dead causing them to crave human brains! Followed by two lesser sequels.

"TINNNA!" This movie is in a class by itself. If you thought Night of the Living Dead was good, this is all that and more. Crazy naked yellow zombie cadavers, split dogs, and the best zombie effects I've seen to date. An excellent soundtrack that melds seamlessly with the movie. Plus Punks, lots and lots of Punks!!! Sorry, got carried away there. Did I mention Linnea Quigley strips.

Are you a fan of Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Zombie, Reanimator, Evil Dead, or Army of Darkness? If so, Return of the Living Dead is your kind of movie. One viewing, and the following phrases will induce hearty laughter upon repetition:
"live brains", "split dogs", "rabid weasels", "send more cops", "Q: What's that sound? ... A: It's dead people screaming", "I can smell your perfume ... and I can smell your brain!!!

This movie is one of the better zombie movies that i have ever seen because it was one of the 1st to show zombies which could not be killed, the movie was written by John Russo who also wrote Night of the Living Dead, I highly reccommend this to anyone who hasn't yet seen it
