A stellar effort steming back from 1990

This is the best Geto Boys album ever made, since their bitter feud in 1992, Scarface and Willie D are back with Bushwick Bill in this album to create a true resurrection of a great houston based band. The sounds are wide and the beats are thick eno...ugh to cut with a knife, and we get a feeling throughout the album that the trio have evolved much since their days of gangbang and murder antics in the late 80's early 90's. A maturity runs through Scarface's vocal cords, he obviously has learnt from his mistakes in the past. The same for Willie D and Bushwick. It's a shame this was to be the last album made with the trio together, and the best one made at that. Read more Less

Face, Will and D are classic together. This album is tight.

After spending nearly five years apart, the Geto Boys reunited in 1996 and released The Resurrection. Since they were more notorious for their lyrical violence than their music only 1991's "We Can't Be Stopped," with its stunning single "Mind Playing Tricks on Me," showed the band experimenting musically it comes as a suprise that The Resurrection is such a strong album. Although the band never deviates from their standard bloodgutssex lyrical routine, they have a greater sense of humor throughout the album. More importantly, they perform with energy and their backing tracks are vigorous and funky. As a result, The Resurrection outstrips every other Geto Boys record in every sense it is the leanest, meanest, and funkiest thing they've ever recorded.

Biography

Geto Boys

Though the controversial subject matter of gangsta rap wasn't much of a barrier to popular success during the '90s, the Geto Boys' recordings proved almost too extreme for widespread exposure. Blocked from distributing their 1990 major-label debut by Geffen -- who insisted that a track dealing with necrophilia as well as murder was a step too far -- the group was saved ... Read more
