Resident Evil -- CODE: Veronica X GameCube

Unlike Capcom's release of the original Resident Evil on GameCube, which was a revamped game designed to take advantage of the 128-bit platform, Resident Evil -- CODE: Veronica X is straightforward port of 2000's Dreamcast version with no additional enhancements to visuals, sound, or significant changes to gameplay aside from a few extra cut-scenes left off the original release. This game, along with Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, has been released with the intent to round out the story line beginning with Resident Evil 0. For those unfamiliar with the series, players initially take control of Claire Redfield as they make their way through an island prison in search of Claire's brother, Chris, an original S.T.A.R.S. member.

Taking place three months after the events chronicled in Resident Evil 2, players find themselves in another fight for survival as zombies, beasts, and mutants created by the seedy Umbrella Corporation are unleashed in Europe. Players must either flee or fight using an array of weapons found along the way. Acquired items are manipulated through an inventory system, allowing players to combine equipment for fighting purposes or for solving puzzles. Once Chris Redfield is found, he becomes a playable character with an alternate story line. Like the earlier Dreamcast version, Resident Evil -- CODE: Veronica X for GameCube features a color-coded mapping system that shows where players have explored and introduces a "Real World System" that has objects and items remaining in the same location throughout the game. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
