Pros: Beautiful Music Scores, Fascinating Characters
Cons: None that I can think of.
Rent was recommended to me by a friend awhile back. I had always thought of the musical as a little bizarre, considering the interesting set of characters. (A man on drag, a prostitute on smack, a bisexual woman, a lesbian, 3 people with AIDS, an ex-druggie songwriter with a temper, and a normal guy.) However, before long, my curiosity took over and I had to see it.
The movie was an incredible piece of art. Every scene was completely realistic and down-to-earth. The setting of hardcore NY fascinated me. I was delighted. This movie moved me beyond belief. When it was over, I just sat there, and tears ran down my face.
I laughed (a lot), I cried (even more), and I yelled at my television screen (even more). I would certainly recommend this movie to anyone, especially those, like me, interested in musicals.
Pros: The entire show on 2 disks
Cons: What cons?
I have had this soundtrack for almost 8 years...and I have to buy a new one because I wore it out! The first time I saw rent, I fell in love with the show....after hearing the music, you understand the story more. The entre show, including the scenes removed in the movie, are here. The quality is great and the youth in Anthony Rapp, Taye Diggs, and cast's voices are fun to listen to. The final track with Stevie Wonder is true fun with the harmonica over the words and music of the late Jonathan Larson. This should go Diamond someday!!!
Pros: EVERYTHING!!!!
Cons: NOTHING!!!!!!
I HEART RENT!!!!! Thats all there is to say, really i heart Idina, and Adam, and everyone!!!! I HEART JONATHAN LARSON!!!!! We all remember him through Rent, and thogh i was unfortunately unable to meet him, we all know how great he was.
YAY FOR RENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pros: Great Play & CD
Cons: Nothing
Best play I have seen, the CD is a must have.
AMAZING...the lyrics, writing, passion and talent in this show is unmatched. I love this CD and listen to it all the time. It reminds me of the 10 times I've seen the show. GET IT!
This is a terrific recording. I've seen the play twice and if you like the soundtrack, you'll LOVE the play.
I absolutely LOVE this album from beginning to end! Although I haven't had the opportunity to see the musical itself, I know every song by heart. Jonathan Larson was a genious! One song that doesn't really sound the way it should (in my personal opinion) is "Another Day," one of the best on the album. Look for it under "Multimedia:Roger:Another Day" on www.joshuakobak.com (note: the 2nd one sounds better than the first). Once again, an AMAZING album! A must have.
FANTASTIC! I KNOW EVERY WORD!
i've seen rent once but i am planning to go see it over and over and over again!!!!!!! i loved it so much!! the music was writtin very very well!! i love everything about it!!
I genereally don't like musicals, but the "rock" sound and feel in the score really pulls you in. They have very strong and moving vocals that can tug at your heartstrings. Truly a great musical, but you had to have seen the show to understand. A must listen to, and an addition to one's music collection.
I saw rent on Broadway and fell in love with it. When I finally got the soundtrack I listened to it over and over. I fall asleep to it every night. My dance teacher uses the music in our warm-ups and we danced to "Seasons of Love". It was actually my dancer teacher who brought me and two friends to see it. It was the best experience in my enitre life!!!
RENT has touched and changed countless lives; the art and writing of Jonathon Larson have not gone unnoticed. this is a beatiful story of multi-dimensional love with music that matches the intensity of the subject. neither cheesy nor canned Broadway, but brilliant.
The music is well done. Songs enjoyed most were
Seasons of Love, Today for You, Tommorrow for Me, and No
Day but Today.
The recording is more
understandable than the show. However, the show was superb!!!!
I loved this musical and ithought the choice of words in the songs really summed up the life of the cast!!
Rent is the first of many in this style of musical. I have never been one for remakes but this retelling of La Boheme is simply amazing! You will laugh, cry, and maybe even get a little disturbed.
THEY ENJOYED THE ALBUM AND IT COST TICKETS TO THE BROADWAY SHOW
After hearing this incredible play I know I am just one of the Rentfreaks who love this music. This is an incredible show.
This show is the future of American Theatre! With a cast SO fantastic that includes Taye Diggs, Jesse L. Martin, Wilson Jermaine Heredia (won a TONY), Daphne Rubin-Vega and Anthony Rapp, they are BOUND to leave you wanting more! A modern updation of Puccini's classic opera LA BOHEME, this story follows the young artists through New York City (instead of Paris) and they battle AIDS (instead of Tubucluosis). They deal with the loss of freinds and love with one another. A true Must-have to ANY theatre or rock fan's collection!
