With a mind as brilliant as Kate Bush you tend to be harder on the weaker albums than you do the great ones such as Hounds of Love because you expect what you know she's capiable of. Unfortuniately for Ms. Bush when I tell you the Red Shoes is her weakest album I mean it without reservation. Its not that they're not worse albums out there in the world, in fact if you compare it to the rest of the music of the era it's not too bad but it's nothing exeptional. The album has a brilliant baisis and even a movie to go along with the CD by the same name starring the wonderful Miranda Richardso but despite all of the positive steps Kate too to make this project work it will leave you in a lackluster state and it is not a listen that you want to hear all the time. There isn't a sparkling to Red Shoes such as Never For Ever, Nor is there haunting arrangements such as the likes of Hounds of Love, but if you are a die hard Kate fan you might find a place in your heart for it. It is a good album, but somehow she managed to do some horrible arrangments on Constellation of the heart, Why should i love you and you're the one!!! It does have great songs but you shouldn't really buy it first! It's truly a shame the conceptual story through the album isn't like a second Ninth wave, but you just gotta love this unique, fantastic, multi-talented, beautiful voiced faerie!!!!

Worth getting to complete your Kate coll

This CD is often given the underdog treatment when compared to Kate's more exotic experiments of previous albums. While I-even as a hardcore Kate fan-won't go so far as to call this album a masterpiece, I think it's far better than people give it credit for. Don't make it your first purchase if you're new to Kate, but if you enjoyed her other albums, this is well worth acquiring to finish your collection, because the better songs are as enjoyable as Kate's greatest hits.
Highlights: "Rubberband Girl," "Eat The Music," "Moments of Pleasure," "The Song of Solomon," and "The Red Shoes"

it's a great album but you should make it the last one to be bought! don't make it the first one in your list, I love all the songs except

Great first half, second half sappy

Great first 6 songs, second 6 songs treacly love songs. Still, better hearing the original than Tori Amos.
