Five years after the rebellion on Mars, a new uprising begins. For 15 long years the people of the Commonwealth have suffered at the hands of the despotic Chancellor Victor Sopot, now, six super soldiers -- condemned to death by the Chancellor -- are rising up to restore the Commonwealth and overthrow Sopot. You join the group as Alias, a demolitions expert, and in true FPS fashion you'll be expected to fight your way to the final showdown. Along the way you'll make use of 14 different weapons from dual handguns to grenade launchers, in addition to various grenade types. Each weapon is equipped with a secondary mode of fire as well.

A revamped version of the Geo-Mod engine returns in this sequel, providing ample opportunity for players to cause wanton destruction to the environment as well as everything in it; from blowing holes in walls, to causing bridges to collapse by shooting their supports. The missions themselves require the player to complete a handful of primary objectives, while optional secondary objectives offer unlockable extras as reward for players willing to complete them.

Throughout the adventure, players will be joined by fellow members of the uprising, who, controlled by the computer, will aid your quest by fighting alongside you. As was the case with its predecessor, Red Faction II plays host to a handful of vehicles, such as a tank, submarine, and hover flyer, which players will commandeer at various junctures in the game. Some of these vehicles are fully controllable while others are purportedly controlled by your teammate Shrike, while you man the weapons array. The title features four-player split-screen multiplayer, offering computer-controlled "bots," various levels and game types to partake in. The game types, of which there are eight, include both single- and team-oriented events from deathmatch to capture the flag, along with slightly altered forms of other popular FPS game modes. ~ Gavin Frankle, All Game Guide
