    Solid Gold Classic

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 28, 2006 | 1 out of 1 found this Reasonable Doubt [Reissue] review helpful

Pros: awesome flow, rhymes, and consistency

Cons: didn't sell 10 million copies

"Reasonable Doubt" by Jay-Z is a window into what great hip-hop embellishes. With tight rhymes and comprehensive narratives, Jay-Z showcases his talent as an MC with effortless syle and grace. Words flow like honey from his mouth. Unlike any other Hova album, "Reasonable Doubt" has no commercial appeal. This has made the album a hidden classic. Anybody who wants real hip-hop should grab a copy of one of rap's all time greatest gems from an all time great MC.

    Way before its time!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 11, 2003

Pros: lyrical content from1996, rap game FINALLY catches up

    Cons: should've been multi-platinum.

You can always go back to this album and hear some of the best lyrics in rap period! Jay-Z dropped raw street game that no one was ready for in 1996. If 'Illmatic' was street poetry and 'Ready to Die' was street grittiness, then "'Reasnbl Doubt' was the true playa/pimp shit blueprint that damn near all rappers are following today.

Every track on here is tight as hell! Hov' was definitely in a zone when he wrote this $hit.

If this was released today, many cats would have to go back to the studio and start over. Then again, a lot of cats probably got rich after studying this album!

    Should've went 10x Platinum.

Reasonable Doubt is not only Jay-Z's most profound effort but the among the greatest rap/hip-hop albums of the 1990's. Throughout his astounding debut, Hova raps frankly about "Dead Presidents," "D'Evils," and "Regrets," refusing to emulate the contradictory "thug vs. humanitarian" mentality of several other rap albums. The finest beats always have been a key element of all Jay-Z albums. Every track on Reasonable Doubt, however, is as equally unforgettable for its beat as it is for lyrics, a feat nearly impossible for any rap album, much less one from the East Coast (Overall, the East comes out with certainly more if not better music, but one must admit that the West and even South have them licked as far as production goes.). An introspective phenomenon in hip-hop, at least every East Coast fan MUST pick up Jigga's debut.

    The time when Jay-z wasn't a.....

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 4, 2003

lyric-stealin' p***y. One of the greatest rap albums of the 90's, the song Brooklyn's Finest ranks in my top 10 greatest rap songs of all time. Other good tracks are Can't Knock The Hustle, Dead Presidents and Aint No Nigga. None of his albums compares to this, just like how none of Nas's albums compare to Illmatic.

    masterpiece

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 18, 2002

"Reasonable Doubt" is Jay-Z's most honest, introspective and maybe his best album. Wit this his debut album Jay-Z established himself as one of the best lyricists in the rap game, spinning together great story telling metaphors and personal themes to give us a rap classic. Unlike some of his later albums like "Hardknock Life...Vol. 2" and "The Life and Times of S. Carter...Vol. 3" this album has no real commercial appeal, which is a good thing. This album had no crossover success and thus some half-way fans consider "In My Lifetime...Vol. 1" his true debut, because it is the first to be distributed by a major label and thus it does have that "major label appeal". What makes "Reasonable Doubt" so great though is it's uninhibited honesty. Jay-Z takes us through the hustlers life and sows together the best flow in the rap game. With production mostly from DJ Premier the beats are great as well, sample-heavy, but also his best I think this is also his best album musically. A true classic, if you don't have it go out and get it fast you'll be so glad you did.
