    Pros: Acting,story line,setting,script

    Cons: film quality,sound

I have not real cons about the movie itself. I am referring to the DVD when I mention the cons here. I remember seeing this move back in my high school days. The first 30 to 45 min did not keep my attention. However with most Hitchcock films that is ...they way it is. You have to keep with the movie and pay attention for it come together. I remember that I did not want to stop the movie after about hour into it. It was so well put together. Here is a guy Jeffries (Stewart),after being involved in a car accident, putting his leg in a cast has a great deal of time on his hands. He is a prize winning photographer that seems to take the superb pic of people, places, and things. Grace Kelly is the Lisa, girlfriend of Jeffries. I could not think of any other actress at that time for the role. She does a wonderful job. On some of the mug shots of kelly, you can see a "filter" being used that softens her skin tones. It is not recommended seeing it one time only. A lot of detail is used that the director meant for the audience to see. The story takes place in Jeffries' apt, looking out his huge apt window is the court yard, you can see into other peoples apartments, and lives for that matter. I like the subplots that are involved in this film. Usually only one or two subplots are used along with the main plot at hand. Some of the subplots are understood even when not a single word is spoken, but going on only actions. That is good directing!!! A lot of changes in the world have come about since the making of this film, like caller ID. Thus it might not make it believable to new/young viewers. I feel this movie has aged well considering the time period it was made. It is wonder addition to my movie collection under Mystery/Suspense. Read more Less

Silence is a powerful tool to master!

The incredible panoramic camera work, with no dialogue at the opening and at the point where Lt. Doyle (Corey) confronts Jeffries (Stewart) about his theory speaks volumes. Hitchcock conveys everything necessary with no dialogue. Casting Raymond Bur...r as the evil Lars Thorwald was a stroke of genius as well. The suspense is palpable and the climax includes some innovative camera work. This is Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece! Read more Less
