Pros: Acting is not bad at all

Cons: Too much 'fillers' in this one

I saw this when it was first released on video and then recently on DVD. The idea of the story was good but I really think that there are far too much talk. The 'operating table' was something to look forward to.

Sorry to say that this one may be a little over-rated, and if bringing back the dead is scary, I would rather go for Stephen King's 'Pet Cemetery'.

Pros: Great Gore Flick. Sick as hell. Funny.

Cons: Few people have seen this movie. Too bad.

This is a truly sick flick. What a Gore fest! Based on a story by the American fascist H.P. Lovecraft. Lovecraft's stuff is always twisted. Not for kids at all. Unless they are my kids. Or totally Pagan kids. I loved the part where the beheaded zombie, who is holding his own head, asks a woman if she wants some head. Wyatt Kaldenberg

One of the best indies ever...

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 26, 2002

This film, based upon the H. P. Lovecraft short story series "Herbert West-Re-Animator", is perhaps the best independent horror film of all time.

Directed by Stuart Gordon, who did the later-"From Beyond", it turned the dated "Herbert West" into the contemporary "Re-Animator" very well.

I consider the special FX to be the best they could do with the $1 million budget that Empire Pictures gave them, and the acting from Jeffrey Combs (of later-"The Guyver" fame), the late David Gale, and Robert Sampson was just superb. It is a great start for the sequal released in 1989 and the third film to be released in early 2003.

Even though you might see a man mess with a head on the cover of the DVD or VHS, it is also perhaps one of the funniest B-horror films ever made. It reminds me of "Evil Dead 2" in the dark comedy mixed with horror that was put onto film.

Because of all of this and a whole lot more, this films is my most favorite B-horror film ever, up on the list with the "Evil Dead" trilogy.

    great movie, bit dissapointed

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 21, 2002

I have to give this movie 5 stars as it is one of my favorite horror flicks, but I wish this DVD set ("Millenium Edition") was better. They had good commentaries and choices on audio output, but they talked about an extended scene on the "operating table" which I thought would be included as a part of the deleted scenes, but sorry to say, it was not. Oh well, I wonder if they will add that scene at a later time or if they just "lost" the footage. Too bad, it sounded like a really disgusting scene that made you want to puke...lol...oh well...next time...

    One of the best!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 24, 2000

This is definently one of the GREATEST horror films of all time! Brian and the rest of the crew did an outstanding job on this film. This film raised the bar on horror films in the eighties, and is to this day Brian's (director) best film. Much better than From Beyond a few years later. If you are into H.P. Lovecraft, or just heavy gore, check this film out!

    Ultra Camp!!!

This is one of the best sleeper slash and gash films of all time. The 1/2 a dog scene and the psycho kitty scene made me cry, it was so damn
funny. But the ultimate is the girl on the autopsy table......I thought was going get a hernia I was laughing so hard. That scene gives new meaning to the phrase "giving head". Hard to get this video, but worth it.A classic.

    Great Horror Film

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 8, 2000

This is one of the greatest horror films I've seen. It's got lots of gore, and plenty of violence. The dark humor in the film makes it even more enjoyable. Definitely a must see for any horror fan.

All out blood and guts. This movie beats all those cheesy late 90's horror films like "Scream and Scream 2". This is how a horror film is supposed to be!
