Ray is the musical biographical drama of American legend Ray Charles. Born in a poor town in Georgia, Ray Charles went blind at the age of seven shortly after witnessing his younger brother's accidental death. Inspired by a fiercely independent mother who insisted he make his own way in the world, Charles found his calling and his gift behind a piano keyboard. Touring across the Southern musical circuit, the soulful singer gained a reputation and then exploded with worldwide fame when he pioneered incorporating gospel, country, jazz and orchestral influences into his inimitable style. As he revolutionized the way people appreciated music, he simultaneously fought segregation in the very clubs that launched him and championed artists' rights within the corporate music business. "Ray" provides an portrait of Charles' musical genius as he overcomes drug addiction while transforming into one of this country's most beloved performers.

    Ray is Awesome!!

By Rachel  Feb 7, 2005 | 3 out of 3 found this Ray (2004) review helpful

    Pros: lots of music

Cons: hard core eye opening truth

Ray is an immaculate movie that should be named the best film of the year. Only being a senior in high school I overly enjoyed the movie and couldn't wait to buy it. I believe that anyone will find this movie to be touching and find themselves wi...th a tear at the end.Although I would have to recommend that this movie should be viewed by a mature viewer because of the contents being dealt with drugs and affairs.I give this movie a definite thumbs up! Excellent Bio Of The Life of Ray Charles

    By Gregory  Apr 22, 2007

    Pros: Jamie Foxx's Best Work.

    Cons: Nothing Negative To Say.

I saw a sneak preview of Ray when I watched a scene from the movie on the NAACP Image Awards on tv. I was impressed with Jamie Foxx in that scene. When I watched the film with my sister, I knew that it was going to be a classic. The film is based on... the book Brother Ray which is about Charles' life. I was also impressed with the performances of Regina King, Kerry Washington, Curtis Armstrong who played the late Ahmet Ertegun who discovered Charles and a lifelong friend. The music is awesome and the performances. This film came out following the death of Charles and a tribute to him. If anyone thinks that the film doesn't deserve the hype and accolates, see it for yourself. If you love a great story about a musical legend, its highly recommended. Read more Less
