A master craftsman at his best

Predictable bloodshed and tremendous style are evident in this oriental epic from a master hand at the age of 75

Greatest film ever by a blind director

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 23, 2000

Yeah, right, its King Lear set in Japan. There's a Shakespearean resonance to the film, but it stands on its own. Kurosawa's use of color is astounding, not only because he was almost blind, but in SEVEN SAMURAI he showed how great black & white can be. The battle sequence in the middle of the film, with music instead of dialogue or sound, is Kurosawa's best since the battle in the rain at the end of SEVEN SAMURAI. And a memorable end for the film's villainess.

If you liked this, see Throne Of Blood

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 26, 2000

Shakespear in hakama! Ran is as big and beautiful a movie about bloodshed as there can be. The characters are right out of a No drama and the colors are outstanding, even if the film is a little overlong. Check out Kurosawa's Throne Of Blood for an even better, if smaller, trip through Fedual Japan with the old Bard.

great and rare big samurai battle theme

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 1, 2000

There aren't that many japaness films out there that includes big and huge battles the way they had it in the old ways. The plus about this movie is that it's also detailed at their trategies and the plot. There were some anoying characters in it but 99 percent of the movie was enjoyable. What is great is that it's also on DVD so it will last a very long time and will be worth your bucks. Similiar titles that include huge wars are "heave & Earth" which i forgot who made it. I'm not talking about the Tommy Lee Jones holywood movie, i'm talking about the japaness movie about samurai battles. Get or watch them both!

A breathtaking movie that shows the foolishness of powerful men. Dramatic, but wise. Learn the message.
