    The Coens Get Into Gear

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 21, 2006

    Pros: Funny, Deep, Endearing

    Cons: Lower budget production values

The Coen's second feature, "Raising Arizona", is a very funny and often sweet look at a misfit couple and their desire to have a baby. This is a wacky farce at times, but like most Coen movies, there is a lot of subtext that is quite obvious once you see it. Nicholas Cage as "H.I." is fantastic as a philosophical, laid-back man trying to make the best life he can for his wife. The fight scene between Cage and Goodman is hilarious (and not unlike the trailer fight scene in Kill Bill... hmm...) as are many other scenes (bank robbery, stolen huggies). Watch for the first appearance of the Coen's wacky cop duo, as well as Hudsucker Industries.

One of the Best Movies of all time!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 22, 2004

    Pros: Nick Cage

    Cons: none

You either love this movie , or you don't get it. This movie is funny on so many levels-it makes fun of itself, yet is surprisingly sweet and can choke you up at times. This is undoubtedly one of my favorite movies

    Best of a Great Group

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 29, 2003

Quite frankly, I love all of the Coen Brothers' movies, but this is the best of them all. It's totally absurd and thought-provoking at the same time. But if you can't laugh at (or recognize) human foibles, then don't bother. It's the most character-driven comedy I've seen.

Deffinetly the wrost of Coen films!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 31, 2002

What is this crap?! Okay. This was the second
movie that Coen brothers made, but... If you
wanna watch a good Coen film watch Barton Fink,
Hudsucker Proxy, Miller's Crossing, Fargo or
    Big Lebowski!

    Fantastically Ridiculous

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 13, 2000

Outstanding, unique writing yields simple characters and situations, and fabulous dialog. The acting is great, but the Coens make this movie. Way too much comedy to be able to condense into a review. In a fight sequence, Cage raises his hands above his head to strike Goodman, and painfully scrapes his knuckles on the ceiling. It was 1 second of film time, but always provides me with an enormous chuckle. It's just one of the 900 things about this movie I love.

Raising Arizona - Great American Comedy

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 12, 2000

This is without a doubt the most fabulous cinematic masterpiece of all time. I've seen it dozens of times and every time I notice something new - from the whistling silence as the Lone Biker of the Apocalypse takes flight, to the absurd distance that Glenn flies through the air after our man McDonnough whacks him one. Even the exploding jackrabbit gets a little funnier every time through. And a great movie for people that hate babies crying, too - not a once. Just try it out and see what I mean...

This Film is a True Achievement

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 14, 2000

Although others may disagree, I think this is one of the finest, if not funniest films to come out of this country in the last two decades. The Coens use the camera to perfectly compliment Cage's slapstick performance. For a "silly" comedy, the characters have more depth than you'll find in most modern Hollywood drivel, and the fact that this film stands up to countless viewings is a true testament to its greatness.

Watch it again ,it grows on you.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 8, 1999

This movie probably isn't for everyone. Honestly, I wasn't impressed until the second or third viewing. If you can really understand Fargo, another Coen brothers masterpiece, then this flic may materialize for you. The tirades, insane dissertations and lampooning mask subtle humor missed the first time around. Coen's death and dismemberment trademark is like waiting for Kenny's demise. Worthy of cult status!
