| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews The end was near for Earth, Wind And Fire. This wasn't quite the disaster it was made out to be at the time, but it was their least distinguished overall album since the early days on Warner Bros., with the exception of the disastrous Sgt. Pepper episode. "Let's Groove" was just a recycled mid-tempo tune from the mid-'70s, and everything else sounded desultory and uninspired. Pros: High Spirited,Lively And Full Of Musical Fire
Cons: None What So Ever!
'Raise!' would be a candidate for Earth Wind & Fire's best album of the 1980's.It also bought them back to the top of the charts with the huge hit "Let's Groove".It's a terrific song but by far not the only winner here.'Raise' is dominated by strongly written funk songs in their classic style like "Lady Sun","Evolution Orange","You Are A Winner","I9;ve Had Enough" and the rollicking "Changing Times"-all uplift the heart like all there best stuff.And almost non stop too-say for the lovely smooth groove of "Be My Love" and the hit R&B shuffle "Wanna Be With You".This was EWF's first full lengh release to fully acknowledge the sound of the 80's and (along with 'Powerlight') their two finest album releases of the decade.And even if they tried EWF would never be able to dare make music quite like this in todays market!
