    Pros: None

Cons: Her Style, Her Vocals, Her figure smells funky!

Mizz Mariah on fire is not hot! Rainbow sounded like a rush job. The production was very shabby and the vocals sounded forced and unbelievable. The tracks are cute. What I think makes this album somewhat palpable is the backgrounds. Mizz Mariah ...only choosing Nicki Richards as her primary background singer for this atrocious album did not spare it any good hits. Some of the tracks that I like are Heartbreaker Remix, Bliss, Petals,& Crybaby. But other than that, she had the emotional value of a poodle, the vocal ability of a strained mop and the personality of a dead salmon. Her writing is on point. Jam & Lewis could not do her justice on this monstrosity. If people think that this is a good album, then they need to really look at themselves in the mirror and see if they accept anything less than mediocrity. If they accept mediocrity, that explains why their lives are not going anywhere anytime soon. If you want mindless dribble and emotionless personality, then this piece of whatever you want to call it is it for you. Grade: D- Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Rainbow

  • All Music Guide

Mariah Carey claims Rainbow, her first album since divorcing Tommy Mottola, "chronicles my emotional roller coaster ride of the past year," but less subjective listeners could be forgiven for viewing it as simply another Mariah Carey album. After all, all the elements are in place the crossover dance hits, the ballads, the cameos, the hip producers, the weird cover choice from the early '80s. But dig a little deeper, and her words ring true. Rainbow is the first Carey album where she's written personal lyrics, and allusions to her separation from Mottola are evident throughout the album, even if it doesn't really amount to the "story" she mentions in the liner notes. As appropriate for any introspective album, it's a bit balladheavy, which makes Rainbow seem a little samey. Yet that's not the only reason the record has a weird sense of déjà vu, since this follows the same formula as its two predecessors, distinguished primarily by her newfound fondness for flashing flesh. That repetit...ion isn't necessarily a problem, since she does formula very well, managing to appeal to both housewives as well as bboys. Rainbow proves that she can still pull off that difficult balancing act, but it's hard not to be a little disappointed that she'd didn't shake the music up a little bit more after all, it would have been a more effective album if the heartbreak, sorrow, and joy that bubbles underneath the music were brought to the surface. - Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide Read more Less

Mariah Carey

The bestselling female performer of the 1990s, Mariah Carey rose to superstardom on the strength of her stunning fiveoctave voice; an elastic talent who moved easily from glossy ballads to hiphopinspired dancepop, she earned frequent comparison to rivals Whitney Houston and Celine Dion, but did them both one better by composing all of her own material.
