    Pros: compact, sound, picture quality

Cons: the menus could be laid out better

got this at the (hiss) local walmart for 69 bucks.. the thing worked fine out of the box.. only peeve right off the bat is there was some spanish video on it but thats the world we live in and it was gone with a keystroke. have about 1.6 gigs of mus...ic on there.. i like that i can add MY mp3s to it and that with WMP11 the synch was quick and painless. this thing also supports a couple online music services but who in their right mind uses them anyways. When i am in the shop working on rc cars i hook this thing up to some spare computer speakers to fill the silence. battery life i guesstimate to be about 7 hours or so at near full volume. this thing also packs enough punch to power my studio (large) headphones as well. I would like this to be able to get a little louder but the volume available is loud enough to cover the sound of nitro powered rc cars at the track using the stock headphones. on the subject of the stock headphones (in ear earbuds) they sound really good! they hit the bass and the high very well. im not going to get all technical about freq range and all that partially because that stuff is beyond me but just trust me on this the earbuds sound better than would be expected from some "OEM" numbers.. The menu system is pretty good,, there are alot of features on there and they did their best to put it in a sensible order but still some of the features take a few more steps than i like to access and it only supports one "my playlist" (selection of favorates for quick retrieval from the entire library that also lists on its own list) but that really isnt a big deal in the whole picture.. Speaking of picture this thing is sharp and very clear on the resolution side. Although some of the more graphics intensive videos like "nin - happiness in slavery" can get a little steppy as it tries to keep up with the action.. when it does this steppy thing its very mild visually and has no effect on the audio portion of the vid. oh this also stores and displays pictures.. hehehe i wont go there. they are sharp and very true color wise.. Heres something cool about this.. it only has one hole in the case 1 ! its the headphone port.. the usb cable has the standard 2.2 usb on one end then a 4 pole headphone jack on the other. transfer speeds are about the same as a 1.1 usb hard drive about 9seconds for a 12 meg mp3. no i didnt time it with some uber expensive guaging equipment its transfer speed is fast and thats all that really matters to me on that. Sure the blue and white looks kinda toyish but the features this thing packs makes up for that and then some.. i highly reccomend this. Read more Less

    Pros: small

    Cons: battery life, slow os

My wife bought me the OPAL 4002a for fathers day, so I've not had it long. The Opal is light and thin, but I could not find a case for it, as RCA does not make one. I found a nokia cellphone case at wal-mart that fits it quite nice however. Sound... out of this player is great, most likley the best feature. the ear buds that came with it are nice as well, but not as good as some other brands. I use phillips ear buds with this player. The OS on this device is fairly slow, and when uploading be patient. you can drag and drop files right from you HD, or sync it with you media player. I found the controls a bit hard to find in the dark, and the firmware is kind of a pain. I already had to update it. Also, you have to go through the entire menu each time you want to switch albums or videos. Also the screen is almost impossible to see in daylight, and it would be nice if it had black and white as a color theme for use in sunlight. The battery seems to give me much less than the stated 15 hour use time, but it does charge rather fast. I can only hope it lasts. After a full charge, the battery light shows half charge after only 4 hoursof use. It's not a bad little player, but some improvments could be made. Read more Less
