    Poor performance

By James  Aug 12, 2007 | 1 out of 1 found this RCA DRC8320N review helpful

    Pros: Great features

Cons: two units broke down in 3 months

I purchased this unit hoping it was one of the best with its 6 head vhs unit and one touch dvd dubbing, but quite frankly this RCA product needed a bit more in the R & D department before they let it out. In 3 months I had two units fail - the dvd po...rtion just dies - will not read any dvds what so ever. If it were one unit or even a different problem with the second I could see it being just my luck, but with the exact same thing happening to two units - there must be a weakness to this model. The second is going back for service - I can only hope they get it right or I'll be tossing $200 in the trash after the RCA warranty runs out. Read more Less

    RCA dvd vcr recorder

By RoelofW  Apr 9, 2007 | 1 out of 1 found this RCA DRC8320N review helpful

Pros: everything. An excellent machine that does all your recording and playback just as advertised.

Cons: none that i could find

Bought it at Walmart for $169. After trying Sony, Philips, Toshiba, Zenith, and Magnavox machines (all within a span of two weeks), this one worked the best. Has cable hookup so you can easily record from the tv. Quality is great on vcr and dvd. Play...s DVD + RW and DVD - RW as well as all other formats. Will format your DVD's even if they have been pre-recorded. You won't find a better buy for a combination machine. Read more Less

    Don't waste your money

    By wibirts  Jul 6, 2009

Pros: Nice features if it worked

    Cons: Pretty much everything else

I received this as a gift for graduation from college. My mother paid $249 for it at Wal-Mart (I know because I saw it a few days later when I went shopping there). It didn't work right from day one. When I could get the thing to turn on (which w...as a total of 15 times) it's recording quality of anything live was very poor. Lots of skipping and blocking. I also wasted four disks for every one I made when copying home movies from VHS because it kept erroring in the middle and ruined the disk and I had to start all over. I ended up only being able to copy 7 VHS tapes over because it took me so long. I called the company and they said it was a "quality issue" and not covered under warranty. I would have returned it to the store if I had bought it but I didn't want to ask my mother for the receipt and have her feel bad that she had bought, what turned out to be, a piece of junk. Of course 3 days after the warranty expired, the unit wouldn't even turn on anymore. Don't waste your money, this VCR/DVD-R isn't worth it. Read more Less

    DO NOT BUY

    By Lois B  Jun 30, 2009

    Pros: Features

    Cons: Everything else

Disc drawer won't close. Forget about "customer service"; it is non-existent. Bought the unit about 4 months ago, just set it up a few days ago. First call to customer service on Friday was told "unplug it for 30 minutes, if that d...oesn't work call us back Monday". Monday's call was told "you need the receipt and I'll hold on while you find it". Needless to say I couldn't find it, they wouldn't help. Read more Less

    Avoid!

    By dsan1  Dec 23, 2007

Pros: Many Features + VCR to DVD

Cons: Timed Record Bad- Now Dead after 4 months

No matter how many times I tried to set up recording to DVD on a schedule, the unit would never begin recording at the schedulled time. I have a couple other brand recorders that I can time record on just fine so I don't believe it was pilot erro...r. It recorded OK if you pressed "record" manually. Image quality was not great on 6hr DVD mode. Now, after only 3-4 months, it has died. Won't power on. On occassion it comes on and says "interface error, turn off the power" but it will not turn off. If unplugged from AC it won't turn back on unless it goes through several cyles of plugged in and unplugged. Once it comes back on the error shows back up. Read more Less

    NOT GOOD

    By Frank L  Dec 21, 2007

    Pros: NO PROS

Cons: WILL NOT WORK AT ALL NOT EVEN LIGHT UP

I purchased one for my spare television August 2006 from Walmart. I intended to mainly use it to copy vcr home movies to dvd and never even plugged it in(stupid of me). Just checked it today and it will not even light up or operate anything. Piece of... junk. Can not even find this model online at RCA for technical support. 12-20-2007 Read more Less
