With a couple of button presses on the DVD Recorder/VCR Combo (model DRC8300N), consumers can easily transfer home videos from a VHS tape directly onto a DVD. More sophisticated editing is also a snap with programmable tape playback, allowing users to select only those scenes they want to copy before recording to disc. You can even split titles or hide unwanted chapters after recording the content to a DVD+RW disc.

Incorporating progressive scan DVD playback capability and a 4-head HiFi VCR, the DRC8300N offers numerous features to enhance the viewing and recording experience. Scene Again instant replay accesses previously viewed DVD or tape segments in 10-second increments, and a 30-second "Advance" function allows viewers to skip ahead to preferred scenes on DVDs or tape.

An on-screen DVD disc library stores up to 400 titles, allowing users to easily sort and locate any title they have recorded using the DRC8300N. You can even find the discs with the most available blank space for new recordings. The on-screen keyboard makes it easy for consumers to create and edit program names for all of their personal recordings. Six recording modes are available - ranging from one to eight hours and SmartRecord automatically adjusts the quality of the recording to fit the available disc space.

Other features include S-Video inputs, for simple recording and playback from camcorders, an mp3 decoder for playing mp3 discs and Digital PhotoView for displaying JPEG files. The player also includes a time base corrector and digital noise reduction circuitry that eliminates picture jitters and reduces noise from videotape playback to significantly improve the quality of recordings from videocassette recorders or camcorders.

Easily integrated into an existing home theatre system, the DRC8300N includes Dolby Digital and DTS compatible digital optical output, two composite video inputs, one composite video output, analog audio inputs and outputs, RF coaxial input/output and a component video output.

a good idea but in reality...

    Pros: burn a permanent dvd

    Cons: inconsistant quality

A dvd recorder seems like a great idea, burn a permanent dvd with no picture degrading like a video tape. But in reality this unit still has a lot of bugs. First my dealer isn't all that familiar with their operation and when problems arrise (a...nd they did) it was figure it out as we went. The set up is fairly easy, operation is quick and picture quality is super. Now for the bad side. The disk need to be finalized after recording to allow them to be played in any other dvd player. But they will not consistantly finalize. This is a real waste of time and disks. After a month of trying to see a pattern to these failures my dealer suggested I take another recorder home to see if it operated better. First 2 disks recorded but then failed to replay. Third disk (another brand) was okay. I feel the failure rate is way to high and RCA tech support is a joke. Their first question is "was I using a +R disk". Am I an idiot? I guess so for buying their product. It's pricey and I recommend other buyers to wait and ask alot more questions. Let the buyer beware. Read more Less

Pros: When it worked it did what I expected.

    Cons: Reliability was awful

I bought this unit in November of 2004 on line from Best Buy. After a month it the operation of the unit hung up occasionally. After 3 months the clock didn't work to record. I took it to the shop for warranty service and it was repaired. After... owning it for less than 18 months it won't play or record. I took it to the shop where I got the warranty service and they told me they couldn't get the needed part to repair it (the laser unit). So after 18 months I'm out the approx $350 I paid for this piece of junk. A warning to all... avoid RCA. Read more Less
