Myself, a Prince fan, find this to be his best cd. Between the hard guitar licks to the robotic beats. The raw emotion of "The Beautiful Ones" is one of the best songs on the cd. This is the best cd for people who dont know Prince's music too well.

I been a fan of prince since I heard 1999 album back in 1982. Then when Purple Rain came out, he got a lot better and more talented. If you do not have this CD or the movie on DVD, then what are you waiting for? Go out and purchase them now!!!!!! It is WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!

It's not quite Sign 'O' The Times standard, but it has a number of tracks that makes this album a valuble purchase. 'When Doves Cry', 'Let's Go Crazy' and 'Computer Blue' are my favourite tracks on this album.

Prince was on a musical roll after 1999, and the soundtrack was a format to launch some of Prince's best music. The record still suffers from Wendy, Lisa, and Fink throwing a few keyboard clunker in there ("computer Blues") and another Prince sex song ("Darling Nikki") that would send Tipper Gore into a rage.
"Let's Go Crazy" and "Purple Rain" show the intensity that makes Prince so irresistable (do those tracks sound a bit like traditional gospel ??). Tracks like "When Doves Cry" and " I Would Die 4 U" point the way for some disipline with music, and Prince can show his disipline of timing and use of percussion.Was this review helpful? a commercial success...put prince on top as far as global appeal..only rates as a 4 cause not as much material as 1999 or sign of the times...what a pity but much never less this is a another masterpiece and the video for when doves cry is.... THE BOMB!!!!!

purple rain contains the greatest single of all time, the greatest guitar solo of all time, and it would be unfair to credit it with anything less than giving it the title of greatest album of all time

Even as Michael Jackson declared himself the King of Pop, Purple Rain proved Princes talents would leave a much broader impact in the areas of Rock Dance Pop R&B and Soul. It also implied that more was to come and it did with "Sign O The Times" arguably his other best album. This is a quintessential 80's time peice.

From "let's go crazy" all the way to "Purple Rain." Wow. Prince and the revolution had the perfect blend of bittersweet rock and pop and the songwriting here is simply inspiring. This album is full of darkness, passion and spirituality. Truly a masterpiece.

if sign o the times is critically considered his best album this is second. 1999 made prince known and this made him a star. When Doves Cry, Lets Go Crazy and Purple Rain are all dazzling and The Beautiful Ones is probably my favourite Prince song ever. Buy it!
