Good movie and story. The demon monster looked great and the make-up for the witch was perfect. It was interesting how the demon and Winston become one and in the end Winston take his place.

Pumpkinhead has the potential to be one of thegreatest horror movies ever made. Effects master Stan Winston does incredibally well forhis first job at directing. I think he spendsso much time creating hideous freaks for otherpeople, that he just want...ed to make is own original monster movie. The reel star of themovie is Pumpkinhead. It just happens to have an excellent cast for him to mutilate! Read more Less

The last half hour of this movie is about all that's worth watching. Pumpkinhead is pretty cool though. He's an unstoppable force. Jason Voorhees would be runnin from this demonic creature!!!

Your enjoyment of this film will hinge upon your ability to laugh at horror movies. "Pumpkinhead" occupies the middle ground between hillbilly action movies like "Deliverance" or "Next Of Kin", and campy '80s horror movies like "Prom Night" or the "...Friday The 13th" series. A decent job is done showing the tenderness and love between father and son, and the death of the boy does tug at the viewer. This plot device could have been handled jarringly, as in other horror movies of its day. The movie doesn't really shift into gear until the second act, when the boy's father makes a dark pact with a local conjure woman for revenge. The special effects are nicley done, and the Appalachian setting is used effectively for some nice staging. An interesting climax, and an eerie epilogue, make this film a lot of fun to watch. It's no horror classic, like "The Exorcist" or even its contemporaries "Hellraiser" and "Nightmare On Elm Street", but it's a great movie for watching with a ton of friends and a big bowl of popcorn.
