    Pros: Fascinating music

    Cons: Unavailable

This is an old (1962) vinyl compilation of world music from the collection of American composer and ethnomusicologist, Henry Cowell. It really demands a CD issue at this time because it contains the only available examples of music from the Cuna peop...le of Panama and the Ainu people of Japan. Also included are a rare sample of Vedda chant from Ceylon and many other beautiful examples of rough-hewn musics formerly called "primitive." Some of the examples were selected from other Folkways label recordings, but most are not available on CD. A booklet containing Cowell's brief but sage commentaries add to the set's value. A treasure of music and history! Scholars, collectors and exotica fans should all love this. Read more Less
