Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice"
Pros: beautifully written
Cons: annoyingly boring nonetheless
This is the classic (arguably the most famous of Austen's work), about Elizabeth Bennet. Bennet is a headstrong young woman in a large family of girls whose mother is in a fanatic frenzy to marry them off to wealthy men because their current estate will be left to male heirs leaving the girls nothing. Elizabeth reluctantly begins a courtship of sorts with a pompous Darcy, and this complicated affair ends with true love.
Beautifully written.
