    Pride and Prejudice!

    By dove77  Sep 16, 2006

    Pros: Addictive and Amusing!

    Cons: None!

I first read the book when I was ten, I loved it and read it six more times after. When I was twelve I came accross a scene from the PBS station on channel 13 of Pride and Prejudice it was just at the beginning ( when Mary rushed out to see the coach...man with the baggages of the Bingleys) of the first scene that I realized what I was watching and I was hooked to watch the second (first one starred Sir Lawerence Oliver) remake of my favorite book done by BBC's Masterpiece Theater. This version was clean closer to the book and funny, no overstated sexual stuff in this DVD, you didn't even see one kiss on the lips. Which is good because the LORD has me so healed that I that I am weary of viewing nudity, sexaul situations, sexual remarks, pornograghy and intense kissing. A peck is good enough! :-) Read more Less

Far superior actors to 1996 A&E version

    By Keri  Aug 20, 2003

I saw this on Masterpiece Theator back in the 80's and it was wonderful! Elizabeth Garvie was great as Elizabeth Bennet, but David Rintoul as Darcy! Wow, talk about sexual tension! He makes Colin Firth's acting (in the A&E 90's version) l...ook stiff and dull. (Firth was the worst Darcy I've seen frankly) Read more Less

    A good film adaption but...

    By ssen_romance  Feb 12, 2001

the video quality is generally very poor (due to the limited budget and the production values of the BBC team). This production has been much criticized for the "stiff" acting of Rintoul and the lack of expression of Elizabeth Garvie, as well as the... addition of certain unnecessary scenes involving the Collins and Lady Catherine. In general, I find this version to be truer in terms of physical resemblance of the characters to the book's descriptions (apart from the very short Lydia who is tallest in the book). Although the film fails to live up to its early promise, it does have its moments, notably Rintoul's restrained twitches when Elizabeth attacks him after his proposal as well as the memorable scene at Pemberley when Darcy and Elizabeth come across each other unexpectedly.
