Pro Reviews: Pony the Horse

The buoyant soul of Cliff Nobles and Co.'s epochal "The Horse" bears few resemblances to the more conventional RB sound that dominates Pony the Horse, a cashin collection cobbling together studio outtakes and demos predating the group's breakthrough hit. Half the songs aren't even instrumentals, instead featuring serviceable lead turns by singers Webb Dixon or Bennie Martin, and the arrangements are curiously flat, with none of the imagination or joy of "The Horse"pedestrian at best, and recommended solely to completists.
